Our Organization and Mission:

The Florida Division of Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco licenses the manufacture, distribution, sale, and service of alcoholic beverage and tobacco products in Florida, including receipt and processing of license applications; collection and auditing of taxes and fees paid by licensees; and enforcement of the laws and regulation of the alcoholic beverage and tobacco industries, pursuant to Chapters 210, , , Florida Statutes. The division's three bureaus - Licensing, Auditing and Enforcement - comprise a team of approximately 325 personnel fulfilling the regulatory obligations of the division throughout the state.

The Work You Will Do:

This position is assigned a variety of regulatory activities for the review of applications and the issuance of licenses, permits, and registrations for the sale of alcoholic beverages and tobacco. This position works independently performing professional work involving eligibility determination activities for the issuance of alcoholic beverage, cigarette, and tobacco licenses, permits, and registrations. 

This challenging position provides the selected applicant the opportunity to help businesses open in Florida and/or assist our industry members with ensuring they maintain compliance with licensing laws. Applicants who can successfully communicate in complex administrative law matters will excel in this position.

The selected candidate in this position performs the following work and other related activities:

  • Reviewing applications for licenses, permits, and registrations to ensure the applicants, premises, and locations are qualified for licensure.
  • Corresponding and communicating with applicants regarding omissions or deficiencies in license applications.
  • Processing routine and complex applications based upon department policy, Florida Administrative Code, or Florida Statutes.
  • Independently evaluating qualifications and requirements to determine eligibility for licensure.
  • Independently determining approval or denial of applications submitted for completeness, accuracy, and compliance.
  • Effectively communicating with the supervisor in the event of a denial for further action.
  • Updating all necessary systems, logs, and other applicable data systems consistently and accurately.
  • Providing excellent service, accurate information, and specific guidance to internal and external customers regarding licensure functions.
  • Processing fee payments to ensure all monies received are deposited in the correct bank account accurately and timely, per established agency receipting procedures.
  • Accurately responding to internal and external inquiries concerning licensure requirements as well as other pertinent information regarding laws, rules, compliance, policies, and procedures.


This position is a non-sworn Other Personal Service (OPS) position located within the Bureau of Licensing.

** This OPS employment is a temporary employer/employee relationship used for accomplishing short term or intermittent tasks.  OPS employees are at-will employees and are subject to actions such as pay changes, changes to work assignment, and terminations at the discretion of the agency head or designee. **

  • Ability to multi-task, working on multiple issues simultaneously and independently.

  • Knowledge of and ability to understand and apply applicable statutes, rules, policies, and procedures.
  • Ability to compile, organize, and analyze data as well as present findings.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Knowledge of computer systems and software used to perform writing, calculating, and data entry tasks, and licensing application processing functions; and,
  • Ability to handle telephone calls in a courteous and effective manner.

Minimum Requirements: 

  • Must have two (2) years of customer service experience 
  • Must have experience using Microsoft Office Suite (Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • Must be able to travel for training and meetings, as assigned.

Preferred:

Preference will be awarded to applicants possessing experience with inputting and/or reviewing data within an automated data records system.
