We are seeking an organized, proactive Lead Estimator with construction industry experience to join our team. The Lead Estimator is responsible for identifying bid opportunities that align with the company's planning goals along with working all estimates to ensure a complete number is submitted.
We're looking for you to do the following:
Key Responsibilities:
- Build and maintain strong relationships with Subcontractors and key vendors to ensure the company receives the best possible service level and pricing.
- Mentor and train all estimators, whether they are full or part time.
- Provide a complete review of all bids to ensure all quantities, production rates and pricing are complete and accurate.
- Responsible for developing strategies for the pursuit and procurement of competitively bid projects fitting within the accepted market segments reflected in the firm marketing plan for the year.
- Identify major issues and concerns on any project in regards of risk/reward situations.
- Responsible for the organization of the Estimating Department to assure proper procedures are in place to allow a smooth bidding process, also to ensure that field review and buy in has been solicited and incorporated into every bid.
- Train the estimating staff on accurate take-off and price items of self-performed work.
- Maintain the estimating systems including full implementation of HCSS
- Assure that all policies and procedures for the estimating department are developed and enforced, such as informing subcontractors if they are 10% or more lower on a bid, assuring that no bid shopping takes place, pre-bid meetings are held with the proper team, effective hand-over to operations meetings are conducted (QAQC), monitoring of schedule closeouts with operations and defining an ethical approach to the buy-out process.
- In conjunction with all departments maintain a working sub list of qualified subcontractors and suppliers who adhere to our company standards. This responsibility also includes helping maintain our preferred subcontractor program.
- Maintain and build working relationships with subcontractors, suppliers, architects, engineers and clients.
You Have:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; bachelor's degree in business, or related field preferred.
- Experience: 5-10 years of estimating experience, preferably in the utilities & construction industry.
- Technical Skills:
- Experience with Estimating software (e.g., HCSS Heavy Job, Stack On-Screen Take Off or similar preferred).
- Strong Excel and data entry skills.

- Business Development skillset to allow for capture / retainage of customer & vendor base.
- Someone that is energetic, self-motivated and can work on task without managerial oversight.

Pay: $100, $125,000.00 per year
