Job Summary: The Associate Director for Community & Cultural Engagement will assist in overseeing the center's operations, programs, and initiatives aimed at fostering community engagement and celebrating different cultures. This role requires strong organizational skills, a commitment to community empowerment, and the ability to work effectively in a diverse and dynamic environment. Working under the direction of unit leadership, the Associate Director supports all aspects of the unit focused on cultural education, celebration, awareness, and engagement.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Director and team members in planning, developing, and implementing a variety of programs and initiatives that promote cultural understanding, community cohesion, and civic participation.
  • Cultivate and maintain positive relationships with community stakeholders, including cultural organizations, local leaders, educational institutions, and residents, to enhance collaboration and support for center activities.
  • Provide supervision, guidance, and support to program and education coordinators involved in center activities, ensuring effective teamwork and program delivery.
  • Assist in managing the center's budget, financial resources, and facilities, ensuring efficient use of resources and compliance with organizational policies.
  • Support marketing efforts to promote center programs and initiatives, including developing promotional materials, managing social media platforms, and engaging with the media.
  • Develop and oversee the planning, coordination, and execution of cultural celebrations and events, ensuring they align with organizational goals and reflect the diverse cultural values and traditions of the community.
  • Oversee assessment for programs and events, ensuring data-driven improvements and reporting on outcomes and impact.
  • Actively build and maintain relationships with community partners both on and off campus to strengthen engagement, collaboration, and support for center initiatives.
  • Continuously improve community and cultural engagement at the University of Utah by providing celebratory events highlighting belonging and connection on campus.
  • Support the Director in creating committees, advisory boards, and coalitions to oversee and support cultural celebrations and events.
  • Oversee and create event planning outlines for staff to follow and update.
  • Supervise event coordinator and marketing efforts for signature events.
  • Book rooms, security detail, registration forms, and other relevant information necessary to host large-scale events and celebrations.
  • Assist in monitoring and evaluating program outcomes and impact, preparing reports and presentations for stakeholders, funders, and the leadership team.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of strategic plans and goals for the center, aligning with the organization's mission and priorities.
  • Assist in developing curriculum for Cultural Education programming.
  • Coordinate with faculty across campus for guest speakers on cultural education.
  • Facilitate and lead discussions, panels, and educational programs for staff and faculty based on the center's mission, goals, and values.
  • Support office coverage and be willing to cover for professional coordinators if needed.
  • May provide supervision to graduate assistants and full-time staff in the center.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Business or Public Administration, a related area, or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience). Six years of progressively more responsible management experience; and demonstrated leadership, human relations and effective communication skills also required.

Master's degree in Business Administration or related area preferred.
