The Department of Physiology & Biophysics is currently seeking a full time Sr. Manager, Research Support. The Sr. Manager, Research Support leads the research program teams to ensure successful system implementation and upgrades. Specifically, the Senior Manager oversees the day-to-day operations and resources of research staff and supports programs for their growth and development.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS
1. Conducts meetings with research staff and ensures functions are coordinated in a timely and accurate manner.
2. Provides technical support and resolves operational problems.
3. Oversees department budget and identifies areas of opportunity for cost reduction.
4. Assists in the preparation and publication of manuscripts.
5. Recruits and trains research staff and prepares performance reports and disciplinary recommendations for the leadership team.
6. Analyzes reports, data briefs, and auxiliary publications for new topic modules.
7. Defines and produces indicators for a data visualization platform.
8. Establishes and continuously assesses the effectiveness of the internal controls within the unit and compliance with University policies and procedures. Ensures employees are trained on controls within the function and on University policy and procedures.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Bachelor's degree in relevant field required

Experience:
Minimum 5 years of relevant experience required

  • Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills to convey ideas clearly and persuasively.

Department Specific Functions

The Senior Manager, Research Support leads the research program teams to ensure successful system implementation and upgrades. Specifically, the Senior Manager, Research Support oversees the day-to-day operations and resources of research staff and supports programs for their growth and development.

1. Lead administrative and financial aspects of the department's pre-award support for research grants and sponsored programs.

2. Serve as a back-up to the finance manager for administrative and financial aspects of the department's post-award support for research grants and sponsored programs.

3. Lead the preparation, review, and submission of grant proposals, including budget development, compliance checks, consortium document management, and final submission processes.

4. Serve as the primary liaison with the Office of Research, facilities, and regulatory units to ensure all ancillary reviews, licensing, and protocol maintenance (EHS,DEA, FL Exemption, IACUC, IRB) are completed and up to date.

5. Manage post-award activities such as financial auditing, account reconciliation, payroll, expense tracking, effort distribution, and award close-out reporting, ensuring accuracy and compliance with sponsor guidelines.

6. Provide monthly financial health statements and guidance to department leadership and principal investigators regarding allowable costs, re-budgeting options, and portfolio management.

7. Supervise and mentor administrative laboratory staff, overseeing supply and equipment purchases, laboratory maintenance, onboarding of new faculty and staff, and reimbursement processes.

8. Ensure compliance with institutional, federal, and sponsor regulations for all research activities, including effort certification and reporting.

9. Foster a collaborative and efficient laboratory environment, supporting scientific operations and administrative needs for multiple research teams.

10. Develop and deliver training for lab personnel and research administration staff for compliance and financial processes.
