Job Summary:

The Patient A/R Specialist is responsible for managing the patient billing process, including generating patient invoices, following up on unpaid balances, and resolving billing discrepancies. This role ensures timely and accurate reimbursement by maintaining up-to-date knowledge of healthcare billing practices and insurance guidelines.

Key Responsibilities:

● Generate and send patient statements for outstanding balances.

● Monitor and follow up on patient accounts to ensure timely payment.

● Contact patients regarding outstanding balances via phone, email, or letter.

● Assist patients in understanding their bills and resolving billing issues or disputes.

● Post patient payments, adjustments, and write-offs in the billing system.

● Research and resolve payment discrepancies, denials, and credit balances.

● Work with the billing team to verify coordination of benefits when necessary.

● Maintain accurate and organized records of all billing activities.

● Escalate unresolved accounts or complex issues to the supervisor.

● Comply with HIPAA regulations and maintain patient confidentiality at all times.

● Support month-end and year-end closing processes for accounts receivable.

● Participate in continuous improvement efforts to streamline billing processes.

Qualifications:

● High school diploma or equivalent required.

● Associate degree in healthcare administration, accounting, or a related field preferred.

● 1–3 years of experience in medical billing, accounts receivable, or healthcare

collections.

● Knowledge of CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS codes is a plus.

Familiarity with EHR and medical billing systems (e.g., Epic, NextGen, Athena).

● Excellent patient communication skills

● Strong attention to detail and accuracy.

● Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

● Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.

● Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).

Strong organizational and time-management skills.
