The beautiful Gardens Assisted Living at Luther Park Community in Des Moines has a unique opportunity for an experienced individual to be our new Manager of Assisted Living. This is a full-time, salaried position that includes overseeing and collaborating with all aspects of our Assisted Living facility. This individual will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of The Gardens including budgeting, staffing and administrative and regulatory compliance. The Manager enforces and monitors policies and procedures to provide a physical, social and psychological environment conducive to maintaining the highest level of independence and autonomy for our residents. The Manager sets the tone and atmosphere of the facility and ensures compliance with established standards for assisted living programs.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Direct, promote and evaluate standards, philosophy, goals, objectives and policies to ensure optimum level of independence and autonomy for residents and compliance with regulatory agencies
Supervise and evaluate the work of direct reports including the Life Enrichment Lead, Life Enrichment Assistants, Maintenance and Housekeeping
- Collaborate with Human Resources on employee recruitment and selection, coaching and disciplinary actions, performance improvement and evaluation, leaves of absence, grievances and work schedules
- Create and maintain working climate conducive to recruitment of qualified staff, job satisfaction and employee retention
- Promote continuous quality improvement and professional empowerment
Communicate with family members regarding residents including in-person and telephone discussions when appropriate
Collaborate with the admissions team to recruit new residents, ensure appropriate admissions and coordinate transitions between levels of service when needed
Collaborate with Dietary Director to ensure a dining experience that supports occupancy goals and overall resident experience
Collaborate with Director of Facilities to ensure building and grounds enhance occupancy goals, resident safety and the overall resident experience
Provide leadership and direction for the biennial Department of Inspections and Appeals survey
Submit reports, records and documentation as required by internal policies, state and federal rules, regulations and laws for assisted living facilities
Prepare and monitor annual budget in collaboration with Finance Department
Participate in campus-wide planning and initiatives to advance organization-wide strategic goals
Develop and maintain relationships with outside resources/organizations to raise awareness of The Gardens, increase occupancy and build partnerships to enhance resident service and support
- Participate in continuing education to maintain credentials and increase expertise and knowledge in assisted living management
- Comply with Luther Park Community policies and procedures
- Serve on Gardens on-call rotation
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent and completion of post-secondary level course(s) in business and/or marketing
- Medication Manager certification or ability to obtain certification within 90 days of hire
- State of Iowa Assisted Living Manager certification or the ability to obtain certification within 90 days
Two years of related experience with assisted living program
One year of management or supervisory experience in a senior living setting
High level of proficiency with computer programs including but no limited to Word, Excel, Outlook and PointClickCare
Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from residents, family members, staff, regulatory agencies or members of the business community
Possess initiative, good judgment and leadership ability to work well with the community, residents, families and staff
Possess understanding and compassion for the elderly population
Able to build effective working relationships with people of all backgrounds
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Self-directed and able to work independently
Support of Luther Park Community's mission, vision and core values
- Must be able to pass a background check and pre-employment physical, drug screen and TB test
- Must have valid driver's license
