SUMMARY:

The Greathouse Company is seeking a Fleet Mechanic Manager to lead and oversee all maintenance and repair operations for our vehicles, heavy equipment, and small engines. This leadership role ensures our fleet and equipment remain in peak condition — maximizing uptime, reliability, and safety across our operations.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Fleet and Equipment Maintenance Oversight

  • Oversee all preventive and corrective maintenance for trucks, trailers, and landscaping equipment.
  • Manage diagnostics, repair schedules, and quality control for all mechanical work performed in-house.
  • Conduct and document regular equipment inspections to ensure safety and compliance with DOT and OSHA standards.
  • Coordinate warranty work and vendor repairs for larger service needs or specialized equipment.
  • Maintain detailed records of all maintenance activities, PM schedules, and repairs to ensure accountability and transparency.

Shop Operations Management:

  • Lead daily operations of the mechanic shop, maintaining a clean, safe, and organized work environment.
  • Schedule and assign work orders based on priority and operational demands.
  • Maintain an organized inventory of parts, tools, and supplies, and ensure timely ordering to minimize downtime.
  • Implement and enforce standard operating procedures (SOPs) for maintenance and repair practices.

Team Leadership & Development:

  • Supervise, train, and mentor mechanics and technicians to ensure quality workmanship and professional growth.
  • Build a positive, accountable culture focused on teamwork, communication, and continuous improvement.
  • Conduct regular safety and technical training sessions to maintain high standards and readiness.

Safety, Compliance & Quality Control:

  • Enforce company and OSHA safety protocols across all shop operations.
  • Ensure all equipment meets safety requirements before being deployed to the field.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections, addressing hazards proactively.
  • Promote a proactive safety culture where every team member takes ownership of maintaining a hazard-free environment.

Cross Department Collaboration:

  • Partner with Operations and Fleet Managers to prioritize repairs and reduce downtime.
  • Collaborate with leadership on budgeting, cost control, and equipment replacement forecasting.
  • Support Logistics and Procurement by providing maintenance data and fleet performance insights

FIRST YEAR EXPECTATIONS & ONGOING EXCELLENCE:

  • Establish and implement a structured preventive maintenance program across all divisions.
  • Maintain 95%+ fleet readiness through consistent PM schedules and efficient turnaround times.
  • Build and train a high-performing shop team to ensure coverage, efficiency, and accountability.
  • Standardize equipment inspection and repair documentation for consistency and compliance.
  • Reduce outsourced repairs by 20% within the first year through improved in-house capability.
  • Foster a strong safety culture and achieve zero preventable shop incidents annually.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; technical or vocational certification in diesel or small engine mechanics preferred.
  • Experience: 3+ years of experience in fleet or equipment maintenance, with 2+ years in a leadership or supervisory capacity.
  • Industry Knowledge: Strong understanding of landscaping, construction, or fleet maintenance operations.
  • Technical Expertise: Proficient in diagnosing and repairing trucks, trailers, small engines, and hydraulic systems.
  • Organizational Skills: Skilled in managing priorities, tracking records, and maintaining shop organization.
  • Leadership: Proven ability to lead, train, and motivate mechanics while fostering accountability.
  • Safety Focus: Comprehensive knowledge of OSHA and DOT regulations and the ability to enforce compliance.
  • Technology: Familiarity with maintenance tracking software, fleet management software and digital work order systems, preferably Aspire (ERP) or Azuga.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $55, $75,000.00 per year
