About the Role

We're seeking a Senior Accountant with public accounting experience to support a growing client base across tax compliance, tax prep, and day-to-day accounting operations. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working directly with clients, managing multiple engagements, and delivering accurate, timely work across tax and general accounting functions.

Key Responsibilities

Tax Preparation & Compliance (3–5 years required)

  • Prepare and review federal and state tax returns (individual and business, as applicable)
  • Gather, organize, and validate client tax documentation
  • Ensure compliance with filing deadlines and documentation standards

Tax Planning

  • Assist with year-round tax planning and strategy recommendations
  • Identify tax-saving opportunities and communicate them clearly to clients
  • Support projections, estimated payments, and entity planning as needed

Bookkeeping & General Accounting

  • Manage monthly/quarterly bookkeeping for assigned clients
  • Reconcile bank and credit card accounts; maintain accurate general ledgers
  • Prepare adjusting journal entries and basic financial reporting

Payroll

  • Process payroll and payroll filings (weekly/biweekly/monthly cycles)
  • Ensure accurate payroll tax payments, reporting, and year-end forms (e.g., W-2/1099)
  • Support client questions related to payroll setup and ongoing compliance

Accounts Payable

  • Process and manage accounts payable workflows
  • Maintain vendor records, track invoices, and schedule payments
  • Support expense coding and documentation for client records

Required Qualifications

  • 3–5 years of public accounting experience, including hands-on tax preparation
  • Demonstrated experience in:
  • Tax prep and tax planning
  • Bookkeeping
  • Payroll processing
  • Accounts payable
  • Strong understanding of accounting fundamentals (reconciliations, journal entries, financial statements)
  • Ability to manage deadlines across multiple clients and priorities
  • Clear communication skills and a client-service mindset

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting required.
  • Experience with common accounting/tax software (e.g., QuickBooks, Xero Drake, ProSeries, UltraTax, Lacerte—whichever applies)
  • Experience working with small business clients across multiple industries
  • Supervisory/mentoring experience with junior staff
