Job DescriptionPOSITION OBJECTIVE
The Assistant Director for Student Services and Engagement reports to the Faculty Director of the Flora Stone Mather Center for Women and will provide leadership for the center's student programming and engagement efforts. In addition, this position will serve as the center's liaison to the Division of Student Affairs to ensure effective communication and provide coordination between the center and the division. This position will supervise the Advocates for Gender-Based Violence and the Peer Educators. Additional responsibilities include serving as a member of the faculty director's leadership team.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Violence Prevention Leadership and Collaboration: Serve as a university and community expert on violence prevention. Provide leadership on issues related to power-based personal violence and underreported populations. Represent the university in division and community response meetings, present research findings, and maintain strong partnerships with students, staff, faculty, and external agencies to advance prevention, education, and survivor response. (25%)
- Program Development and Awareness Initiatives: Oversee campus-wide prevention education and awareness campaigns, including It's On CWRU, Sexpopalooza, Sexual Assault Awareness Month, and orientation programs. Make decisions on themes, outreach, and outcomes; manage related workshops, programs, and events; and collaborate on marketing, assessment, and evaluation of initiatives. (25%)
- Supervision and Training: Supervise and train two Advocates for Gender-Based Violence. Select, hire, train, and supervise Peer Educators in the execution of all It's On CWRU initiatives, including responsibility for implementing and reviewing evaluation data with them. Provide professional development, conduct performance evaluations, and develop/deliver training for the Coordinated Community Response Team and other university/community responders on cultural competency, trauma-informed practice, and high-risk population response. (25%)
- Gender Equity and Student Engagement: Coordinate student programs that promote gender equity, including WISER and Women's Coalition. Partner with departments, schools, and colleges to provide bystander intervention, faculty/staff development, and advocacy programs that foster a safer and more welcoming campus community. (20%)
NONESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Perform additional responsibilities as assigned to support the mission of the university and the Division of Student Affairs. (5%)
CONTACTS
Department: Daily contact with Faculty Director and the Vice President for Student Affairs, or their designee (Associate Vice President for Student and Family Connections), as well as other center staff for collaboration, supervision, and programming.
University: Daily contact with Student Affairs departments to support training on bystander intervention, safe sex, consent, healthy relationships, family support and women's health to students, faculty and staff. Collaborate with University Health and Counseling Services, Office of Student Conduct and Community Standards, the Office of Undergraduate Advising Support, Office of Equity, Graduate Studies, Greek Life, Housing, and Residence Life Services, and the Compliance Officer. Frequent contact with staff in the Office of Campus Engagement and Enrichment, Office of Multicultural Affairs and the LGBT Center related to support in education and training and survivor response.
External: Frequent contact with educators and clinicians at Cleveland Rape Crisis Center (CRCC), and local area medical facilities (University Hospitals, Cleveland Clinic, Planned Parenthood, Preterm, etc.) to collaborate on bringing content and educational resources to campus. Occasional contact with alumni and community supporters to promote and market programs. Occasional contact with non-university vendors to plan special events such as Sexual Assault Awareness month.
Students: Daily contact with undergraduate, graduate, and professional students at the university and its affiliates (Cleveland Institute of Art, Cleveland Institute of Music, Lerner, Kent State University Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine, etc.) to collaborate on training requests and develop resources, training and educational materials related to prevention of sexual assault and gender-based violence. Provide advice and options for students seeking information on reproductive health.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
Directly supervise 2 Advocate for Gender-Based Violence positions.
QUALIFICATIONS
Experience: 6 years of experience in violence prevention and survivor support initiatives in higher education or the community required. Direct service experience preferred.
Education/Licensing: Bachelor's degree in appropriate discipline required. Master's Degree preferred. Valid drive'¿s license is required.
REQUIRED SKILLS
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in supporting survivors of sexual violence, and understanding the overlaps and connections between sexual violence, intimate partner violence and stalking. Experience working with a wide range of populations in a university or college setting.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Title IX, and the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery).
- Must be able to maintain a creative and positive work environment. Ability to create a welcoming environment marked by respect for others.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the role of gender in social relations in institutions.
- Ability to supervise students, student groups, and facilitate group planning, help resolve issues as needed.
- Provide trauma-informed supervision to direct service staff. Maintain and demonstrate a knowledge for survivor support services and the criminal justice system.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including respect for all aspects of an individual's identity, ability to resolve conflict, clear personal and professional boundaries, and ability to work collegially and collaboratively in an interdisciplinary team process.
- Dependability and good work habits.
- Must be willing to complete OAESV Advocate training if not already completed by end of orientation period.
- Knowledge of and adherence to relevant laws and professional standards regarding Title IX and professional ethics and privacy.
- Must be able to make sound, autonomous decisions.
- Must be able to manage multiple priorities.
- Must be able to work independently most of the time and in intense collaboration with others when needed.
- Demonstrated history of successful support, education, and advocacy for all students, aligned with the values, mission, and messaging of the university, while adhering to the staff policy on conflict of commitment and interest.
- Ability to meet consistent attendance.
- Ability to interact with colleagues, supervisors and customers face to face.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Typical office locations on a university campus. Must be willing and able to have a flexible schedule and work occasional nights and weekends. A valid driver's license is required.
Hybrid EligibilityThis position is eligible for hybrid work arrangement up to two remote days per week at the discretion of the department. New employees may begin a hybrid schedule upon approval from the supervisor, successful completion of an orientation period and signing the remote work checklist certification form.
