JOB DESCRIPTION

POSITION TITLE: Englewood Part-time Education Assistant

EXEMPTION STATUS: Non-exempt

REPORTS TO: Residential Program Manager

POSITION DESCRIPTION: The Part-Time Education Assistant will support the launch and development of youth programming at the Englewood site of Chicago House's Afterschool Bridges Program. This position is ideal for a self-starter who is passionate about youth development, building trusting relationships, and co-creating programming in real-time based on participant needs.

The Education Assistant will be tasked with implementing a fully built after school mentoring curriculum by engaging directly with youth, observing interests, identifying needs, and collaborating with site staff to co-design programming that is culturally relevant, engaging, and responsive. This position works afternoons and early evenings, approx hours per week.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Establish trusting relationships with youth participants ages 6-17 through regular engagement and positive interactions
• In conjunction with services staff, observe and assess youth interests, challenges, and group dynamics to co-develop relevant programming and curriculum
• Participate in weekly check-ins with the Bridges Program Coordinator and Englewood Program Manager Collaborate weekly with the Program Manager and Case Manager to design and adapt activities that meet academic, emotional, and social needs of youth
• Communicate youth needs, challenges, and progress to supervisor(s) regularly
• Facilitate light activities (art, games, reading, or free-play) to encourage participation and consistency as trust build
• Ensure youth are safe, supported, and encouraged in all activities
• Support snack preparation, attendance tracking, and program documentation as needed
• Help set up and maintain a welcoming, trauma-informed environment in the youth space
• Assist with special events or family engagement activities occasionally
• Other duties as assigned, based on program evolution

REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:

• High School Diploma or GED certification
• Experience working in afterschool programs
• Experience mentoring and modeling positive behaviors for youth and clients, through supportive and encouraging interactions.
• Available to work afternoons and early evenings, approx hours per week
• Demonstrates the ability to work cooperatively as part of a team.
• Demonstrates professional behavior (being punctual, courteous, appropriately dressed, and uses professional communication, etc.)
• Proven ability to collaborate successfully across diverse cultural and social communities
• Commitment to the mission of Chicago House and trauma-informed, youth-centered values
• Demonstrates the ability to work well with others and think clearly under pressure.
• Demonstrates the ability to exercise good judgment in crisis situations.
• Demonstrates basic word processing skills.
