Property Accountant – Real Estate Development & Property Management

A dynamic Real Estate Development and Property Management firm is seeking a highly organized and analytical Property Accountant to lead and oversee financial operations across our development projects and property portfolio. This role will be responsible for managing the accounting function, ensuring compliance with financial standards, and providing strategic financial insight to support business decisions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all aspects of day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and bank reconciliations.
  • Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements (Balance Sheet, Income Statement, Cash Flow).
  • Manage month-end and year-end close processes in coordination with internal teams and external accountants.
  • Supervise and review project-level accounting, including tracking of capitalized development and restoration costs.
  • Manage the preparation and submission of draw requests, ensuring proper allocation of costs across multiple projects.
  • Develop and maintain budgeting and forecasting models for both ongoing operations and new development initiatives.
  • Ensure accuracy and compliance with GAAP, internal policies, and external reporting requirements.
  • Lead and support internal and external audits, including preparation of required documentation and schedules.
  • Collaborate closely with asset managers, property managers, and development teams to align financial reporting with operational goals.
  • Manage vendor and contractor payments, and maintain strong relationships with external financial partners.
  • Continuously improve accounting processes and implement best practices for efficiency and accuracy.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA or progress toward CPA preferred.
  • 3+ years of real estate accounting experience
  • Experience in real estate development and/or property management highly preferred.
  • Strong proficiency with accounting systems such as QuickBooks, Yardi, or AppFolio; advanced Excel skills required.
  • In-depth knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and project accounting.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Proven leadership, communication, and team collaboration skills.
