Overview:

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Senior Accountant for a contract engagement with our client in the biotechnology research sector. This role offers flexibility with remote work and potential hybrid collaboration on-site in the Boston, MA area. The Senior Accountant will be responsible for critical accounting functions, including month-end close, reconciliations, audit support, and tax compliance assistance. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical expertise, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to work independently while supporting a fast-paced, research-driven environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform and review month-end close activities, including journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations.
  • Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts to ensure accuracy and compliance with GAAP.
  • Prepare audit schedules and documentation; serve as a point of contact for external auditors.
  • Assist with preparation of federal, state, and local tax filings and provide supporting documentation.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes and enhance reporting accuracy.
  • Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior accounting staff.
  • Support ad-hoc projects and reporting needs within a dynamic biotechnology research business.

Qualifications & SkillsEducation & Certification: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA strongly preferred.

Experience:

  • 3–6 years of progressive accounting experience, with emphasis on month-end close and general ledger.
  • Public accounting experience (Big 4 or mid-tier firm) highly valued.
  • Prior exposure to biotechnology, pharma, or research-driven industries preferred.
  • Experience assisting in audits and preparing financial reports.
  • Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of US GAAP, proficiency in ERP systems (Oracle, SAP, NetSuite, or similar), and advanced Excel skills.
  • Soft Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, excellent communication abilities, and adaptability to a fast-paced contract role.
