Our team combines deep product knowledge, design expertise, and trusted relationships to deliver solutions that stand the test of time.

We're proud to be "Here for Good" — in every sense of the word.

About the Role

As a Retail Interior Designer, you'll help customers bring their visions to life through personalized, thoughtful design guidance. You'll work directly with homeowners and contractors to select paint, flooring, window treatments, and wallcoverings that enhance both function and beauty.

This role is ideal for a designer who loves connecting with people, thrives in a collaborative retail environment, and values long-term relationships over quick transactions.

What You'll Do

  • Provide in-store and scheduled design consultations for residential projects

  • Help clients select paint colors, wallcoverings, flooring, and window treatments

  • Create cohesive design presentations and recommendations that fit each client's lifestyle, budget, and goals

  • Maintain strong product knowledge across all design categories

  • Collaborate with contractors, vendors, and team members for seamless project coordination

  • Stay current with design trends while honoring timeless principles and aesthetic

  • Use POS Software and other design tools to manage projects and process transactions

  • Uphold Johnston's core values in every interaction

What We're Looking For

  • Degree or certification in Interior Design or related field preferred

  • 2+ years of residential or retail design experience

  • Strong communication and customer service skills

  • Ability to listen well and guide clients with confidence

  • Organized, proactive, and detail-oriented

  • Experience with design visualization tools

  • Ability to work Monday–Friday, 8:00–5:00, with some saturdays

Why You'll Love Working Here

  • Competitive pay based on experience

  • Full benefits package: health insurance, retirement plan, and paid time off

  • Supportive, relationship-driven culture focused on quality and integrity

  • Opportunities for continuing education and professional growth

  • Be part of a trusted, 100-year-old local business built on craftsmanship and care

Our Promise

At Johnston Paint & Decorating, you'll help transform homes and lives. You'll be part of a team that believes doing what's right isn't a choice — it's who we are.

Join us and help create spaces that inspire, comfort, and endure.
