Architecture Design Associate I

The GMC Georgia Architecture Studio has an opening for an Architecture Design Associate in Columbia, SC. The Design Associate provides support to the lead architect in the design, selection, coordination, and detailing of architectural materials and systems.

We have 27 offices located throughout Georgia, Alabama, Louisiana, Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee. Who knows where this road may take you?

Essential functions and responsibilities include:

• Evokes a self-starter mentality
• Possess creativity with a strong desire to learn the technical portion of construction documents, paired with client relations
• Acquires basic knowledge and develops skills in a specific practice area
• Applies standard techniques, procedures, and criteria to perform assigned tasks
• Exercises limited judgment on details of work and in application of standard methods for conventional work
• Acquires and understanding of professional and ethical responsibilities
• Performs basic design tasks
• Perform code and product research
• Visits sites to prepare as-built drawings of existing buildings
• Prepares construction document drawings in Revit
• Assists on other tasks such as preparation of permit applications and project manuals
• Collects data and gathers information, performs standard computation and analysis
• Coordinates with engineering consultants on assigned projects
• Prepare meeting agendas and document meeting notes
• Responds to contractors RFIs and communications during construction
• Review shop drawings for conformance with construction documents
• Occasional site visits to projects during the construction phase to monitor construction progress
• Performs any other tasks as needed by Supervisor

Minimum Qualifications:

• Strong oral and written communication skills
• Bachelor's Degree (or higher) from an accredited architectural program
• Previous architectural experience preferred
• Must be able to perform work-related travel and have a valid driver's license
• Must be local to GMC office
