Weapons Product Engineers serve as the primary contact to establish product definition and work scope by development of the appropriate manufacturing plans, product specifications, work instructions, and other documents necessary to manage customer requirements. Monitors and tracks progress once work is initiated by operations and works directly with operations to resolve technical/administrative issues as necessary and provides feedback on these issues to the program managers. Serves as point of contact for communicating work scope to the production areas by issuing all documents required to support production, certification, assembly of components, issuing work requests, product engineering transmittals, advance change orders, engineering change requests, and assisting in the development of routings/schedules for the production areas to accomplish the work scope. May also be required to assist in major procurement efforts associated with weapons program work and work with outside vendors as necessary to procure hardware and/or materials that are outside of Y-12's current manufacturing capabilities.
Weapons Product Engineers serve as the primary technical point of contact between the Y-12 Production Agency, the Design Agencies, and other Nuclear Weapons Complex Production Agencies; for the activities associated with all phases of weapons programs. Weapons Product Engineers may serve as the point of contact for all model based engineering efforts for the Y-12 site. This role would interface directly with all other sites across the nuclear weapons complex. Serve as a member of product realization teams for all future weapons programs. Weapons Product Engineers may serve as a technical subject matter expert for disposition operations. Works closely with process engineers and waste engineers to fully characterize weapon materials and weapon related materials for packaging and disposition efforts. The position will support some Production waste-generating activities, and may require a general understanding of waste characterization, treatment, packaging, transportation, and disposal of waste generated at Department of Energy nuclear facilities.

- Bachelor of Science in Engineering/Science/Information Technology discipline from an Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC) Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology (ABET) accredited program in the United States or designated equivalents from Canada or Mexico, the Washington Accord, or the list of substantially equivalent as documented by ABET with a minimum 3.0/4.0 cumulative GPA. Minimum 2 years of relevant experience.
- OR a Master's degree in engineering/physical science discipline with a minimum 3.3/4.0 cumulative GPA.
- OR a PhD in engineering/physical science discipline with a minimum 3.5 cumulative GPA.
- There is a minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) requirement up to 4 years post-graduation at time of offer and confirmed by transcript. Beyond four years from graduation, engineering experience will supersede GPA as a requirement for hire.
- In addition, the applicant must meet the requirements of DOE O 426.2A (i.e., Baccalaureate in engineering or related scientific major, 2 years job-related, and 1-year nuclear experience; or a DOE O 426.2A alternative). DOE 426.2A experience requirements can be satisfied following employment. In the interim, newly hired personnel will not be assigned duties that could impact the safety basis of nuclear facilities. - Eight years of Y-12 or NNSA plant engineering experience, of which 4 years are in direct support of NNSA production operations is strongly preferred
- Previous work experience with weapons programs and materials
- Experience with and knowledge of Y-12 weapons materials and production operations preferred including an understanding how the plant interfaces with other agencies with the Nuclear Weapons Complex
- Ability to prepare and make presentations
- Knowledgeable in respective technical standards, principles, theories, concepts, and techniques
- Ability to work in a project team environment and communicate well with other disciplines, customers, and stakeholders
- Ability to follow procedures and work within a rigorous work process
- Ability to estimate, plan, and track progress for preparation of discipline deliverables
- Experience with drawing and model based design using Creo
- Experience with storage and retrieval of electronic records
- Experience in Computer Science

Requires a Q clearance; however all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status. The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Q clearance is required.
