We are excited to announce an opportunity to join our growing team at Friedman Schuman Layser, PC. As our firm continues to expand, we are seeking a dedicated legal assistant with a minimum of 2 years' experience to support our medical malpractice department. This role offers the opportunity to work on high-impact cases alongside an experienced team of attorneys, paralegals, and legal assistants as well as the opportunity to grow your career with a firm that values professional development.

The ideal candidate will be attentive and possess excellent communication and organizational skills, with a strong interest in the legal field. This role offers valuable hands-on experience in complex litigation, meaningful client interaction, and clear opportunities for professional growth within a dynamic legal team.

Responsibilities:

  • Help manage the intake of new cases by gathering client information and organizing case materials for attorney review

  • Manage attorneys' calendars and assist with tracking deadlines

  • Prepare, send, and track medical record requests to healthcare providers and facilities

  • Draft and review legal correspondence including proofreading for errors in grammar, spelling, punctuation, and formatting

  • Follow up with other staff members and attorneys on the status of cases

  • Maintain organization of multiple cases

Qualifications & Skills:

  • 2+ years of related experience

  • Familiar with State and Federal court filings, including submission of electronic filings.

  • Strong oral and written skills

  • Strong scheduling, follow-up, and multitasking skills

  • Experience at a law firm preferred

  • Must be able to effectively prioritize and meet deadlines

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • Experience with Speech Live transcription software preferred
