Accounting Manager

We're seeking an experienced Insurance Accounting Manager to lead the preparation of Statutory and GAAP financial statements, oversee the reinsurance process, and ensure accurate and timely production of the company's financial reports. This role plays a pivotal part in accounts receivable reporting, QuickBooks maintenance, quarterly tax filings, regulatory compliance, and insurer year-end and supplemental state filings.

As our Accounting Manager, you will serve as a vital liaison between Finance and IT teams, driving system upgrades and enhancements while generating ad-hoc analytical reports to support strategic financial decision-making.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare, update, and review monthly statutory financial reports, including reconciliations and footnotes
  • Research and monitor statutory accounting principles (SSAP) impacting business operations
  • Manage monthly close schedules and maintain quarterly reporting logic
  • Oversee takeout accounting by tracking and reconciling assumed policies and coordinating with internal teams and MGAs
  • Review reinsurance payment requests and ensure compliance with closing procedures; prepare Schedule F and related exhibits
  • Prepare and update GAAP financial statements, including footnotes and supporting schedules
  • Verify and reconcile accounts receivable reports across systems and analyze AR trends
  • Coordinate audit processes and update tax workpapers for external tax filings (STAT and GAAP)
  • Collaborate closely with IT on system maintenance, upgrades, and reporting enhancements
  • Prepare insurer year-end supplemental state filings
  • Generate ad-hoc reports utilizing internal reporting tools to support financial analysis and business insight
  • Support special projects and regulatory reporting related to depopulation and other initiatives

Preferred Skills & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field
  • 5–7 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably within insurance or financial services
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Access, and QuickBooks
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate cross-functionally with IT and finance teams
  • Detail-oriented with a strong analytical mindset and ability to manage multiple priorities
