Leading local manufacturer of wood products, is looking for a dedicated and proactive Staff Accountant to join our dynamic accounting team. In this multifaceted role, you'll play a key part in managing Accounts Receivable while also gaining valuable experience across various areas of accounting, including serving as a backup for multiple positions within the department. About the Role:

As a Staff Accountant, you will oversee the Accounts Receivable functions for the company, ensuring the timely processing of payments and managing customer accounts. But this position is more than just an accounts receivable role—your ability to cross-train and support different areas of accounting will be just as important. You'll step in to back up your colleagues in various accounting functions, contributing to the efficiency and flexibility of the team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage Accounts Receivable: Process customer payments for multiple entities according to company policy, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Monitor Customer Accounts: Stay on top of late payments, partial payments, and any discounts taken. Provide regular updates to management regarding account status.
  • Collection & Resolution: Organize and initiate collection efforts, working to resolve any AR issues effectively. Communicate directly with customers through phone, email, or in person.
  • Account Reconciliation: Perform daily cash reconciliations, weekly/monthly balance checks for integrated software systems, and bank statement reconciliations.
  • Credit Applications & Customer Inquiries: Conduct reference checks on credit applications and investigate customer inquiries in a timely manner.
  • Support Across Accounting Areas: Cross-train in other areas of accounting (e.g., general ledger, payroll, timekeeping, payables, inventory, financial reporting) and serve as backup during absences, ensuring smooth operations in the department.
  • SOP Maintenance: Document and maintain clear standard operating procedures for accounts receivable processes and other areas as you cross-train.
  • Audit & System Implementation Support: Assist with annual audits and help with the implementation of new accounting systems as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: A minimum of 5 years of relevant accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a manufacturing environment preferred. Experience in the wood products industry is a plus.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Skills: Solid understanding of general ledger and accounting principles (GAAP). Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Microsoft Dynamics, QuickBooks) and Excel.
  • Attributes: Strong attention to detail, exceptional organizational skills, and the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
  • Process Improvement Mindset: Proactively identify areas for process improvement and take ownership of implementing solutions.
  • Team Player: Ability to work independently while being a valuable collaborator within the team. Flexibility to back up team members as needed.
  • Deadline-Oriented: Ability to manage and meet varying deadlines with a strong sense of urgency.
