The Shop Manager (SM) role is the most critical role in the success of Take 5 Oil Change shops. We want our managers to act as business owners Our shop managers have autonomy, responsibility, must be able to consistently perform, motivate effectively, and develop a strong team around them.

Responsibilities – What does a Shop Manager (SM) do?

  • Head up and develop a strong shop leadership team (ASM and Lead Technician) and set the culture of the shop on a daily basis
  • Motivate, challenge, and mentor each team member toward their full potential, while leading the shop to maintain high standards and profitability.
  • Understand and manage the entirety of the shop P&L, financials, KPIs, and budget. Train shop leadership and employees to execute the Take 5 playbook flawlessly to drive performance and beat budgets.
  • Lead the promotion of existing employees, and also the recruiting, interviewing, and onboarding of new employees for the shop.
  • Check in with customers before they leave the shop to make sure they had a superior experience and start building relationships with repeat customers.
  • Hold the shop team responsible for high-level execution of Take 5 playbook and customer service experience.
  • Oversee and approve product orders, uniforms, inventory deliveries, and inventory control on a monthly basis.
  • Conduct employee evaluations, competitions, training sessions, etc. to develop team.
  • Perform and oversee management tasks including opening and closing procedures, inventory management, responding to unique customer needs, scheduling, and weekly payroll management.
  • Support technicians in their duties of engine oil changes, automotive fluid level inspections, adjusting tire pressure, air and cabin air filter installation, wiper replacement, coolant exchanges, payment processing, education of the customer.

Qualifications / Ideal Candidate:

  • Be prepared for flexible work schedule and work approximately 50 hours per week, every other weekend.
  • Possess strong leadership and mentoring skills with a servant-leader mindset.
  • Have extreme ownership mentality in the business, customer satisfaction, and execution of shop operations.
  • Be adaptive to a changing environment.
  • Thrive on delivering superior customer service.
  • A "whatever it takes" attitude – willingness to fill the need wherever it arises.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule.
  • Have excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Become highly knowledgeable and familiar with our products and services.
  • Must be able to stand / work for extended periods of time, lift fifty (50) pounds with reasonable accommodation, and maneuver in and out of 3' deep pits to service vehicles.
  • Two years of previous direct leadership experience is required.
