Job Overview

We are seeking a proven leader to head Mainspring's Technical Program Management team.  This person is responsible for the processes and execution of all the major product deliveries across the company, whether it's an engineering change to an existing product or the development and release of a new product or feature.  You and your team will enable the company to get to the next level of scale by deploying and operating increasingly rigorous and effective processes.  

You are a quick learner with the technical depth to navigate complexities spanning design, manufacturing, and customer support. You effectively manage scope, schedule, cost, risks, trade-offs, for the most important programs that you and your team are driving.  A strong communicator, you'll collaborate closely with leaders across Engineering, Supply Chain, NPI, Quality, Reliability, Test, Manufacturing, and Field Support, as well as working directly with the company executives.  This position reports to the SVP of R&D.

Responsibilities
  • Manage a team, define strategy and priorities: The team supports many primary projects and programs across the company. You will drive successful delivery through your team and maximize impact to the company by identifying opportunities, setting priorities and directing the resources. Hiring, mentoring, and developing the team are key responsibilities
  • Product development projects and programs: Work with leadership to set company strategy and translate that into priorities for the program management team. Manage hardware and software product development programs through all phases: from conceptual ideas to scaling manufacturing. working with engineering, manufacturing, quality, supply chain and more. Ensure successful delivery of programs and projects meeting the scope, timeline and budget
  • Business process improvements: Identify and improve or implement new processes needed to scale the business and maximize efficiency of the organization. Deploy  backbone product development systems to help the company scale up, from basic R&D programs, to cost-down supply chain initiatives and improvements to manufacturing operations
  • Business process ownership: Own and drive Stage Gate and Change Management processes governing product lifecycle
Qualifications
  • 15+ years of experience: Relevant experience as a program manager and leader of a team of program managers. Engineering background is strongly preferred. An ability to quickly grasp complex technical and operational tradeoffs is a must
  • Team Leader: Proven success managing a team of highly skilled individuals. Effective leader across the organization
  • Product Development Program Management:  Have managed multiple product development programs through the full lifecycle, from concept to volume production, for complex products that include manufacturing solid goods with sophisticated software
  • Business process ownership and improvements: Have a strong track record of driving process improvements across a wide range of teams and driving standardization of processes
  • Communication and collaboration: Skilled at engaging and influencing stakeholders at all levels, with clear verbal and written communication
$203,000 - $240,000 a year This position is onsite at our Menlo Park HQ. The salary will be adjusted to reflect local market conditions based on employee location as well as the experience of the employee. Along with the base salary, Mainspring offers pre-IPO stock options + benefits.
