BillionToOne is seeking an experienced
Associate Director/Director AI Engineer
to join our Enterprise Architecture / Data Science organization and lead the design, execution, and scale-up of AI initiatives across our enterprise. This hybrid role blends
deep technical expertise
in Generative AI with
program management excellence
, enabling enterprise-level adoption and transformation.

Reporting to the VP of Data Science/IS,IT, you'll partner closely with executive leadership and business unit leaders to
drive the enterprise-wide GenAI strategy
, deliver measurable value, and unlock operational efficiencies across Commercial and SG&A teams. You will serve as a thought leader and architect of GenAI-enabled innovation at BillionToOne. This is a hybrid (onsite 3-4 days/week) position and reports to the Vice President of Information Technology.

Responsibilities

  • AI Strategy & Leadership

  • Develop and lead the company-wide strategy for Generative AI adoption.

  • Serve as a consultative partner to executive leadership and business units, identifying and prioritizing high-impact AI opportunities.
  • Design end-to-end AI solutions that integrate with existing enterprise architecture and comply with IT security, privacy, and governance standards.
  • Act as a thought leader, internally and externally, on practical GenAI applications, AI ethics, and industry best practices.

  • AI Architecture & Delivery

  • Conduct user interviews and define technical and functional requirements.

  • Conduct technical assessments of vendor solutions and manage relationships with AI technology partners.
  • Evaluate and implement platforms such as Azure AI, AWS SageMaker, and Google Vertex AI.
  • Establish and enforce MLOps practices for model deployment, monitoring, and version control.
  • Design APIs and microservices for real-time AI inference and integration across business workflows.
  • End-to-end feasibility to delivery, including: leading proof-of-concepts, validating ROI, development, integration and testing.
  • Mentor other AI developers on best practices, frameworks, and architectural patterns.
  • Knowledge of data engineering concepts and tools (SQL, ETL/ELT, data warehousing).

  • Program Management & Execution

  • Lead proof-of-concept development to validate technical feasibility and business value.

  • Drive continuous improvement in AI delivery processes and methodologies.
  • Manage a portfolio of 3–5 concurrent AI projects from concept to deployment.
  • Own delivery timelines, budgets, milestones, and success metrics.
  • Facilitate stage-gate reviews with clear go/no-go criteria.
  • Partner with IT, Data Science, Legal, and security teams to ensure governance and compliance.

  • Business Enablement & Change Management

  • Partner with business leaders in sales, marketing, finance, and operations to identify high-value AI opportunities.

  • Translate business needs into AI solutions and demonstrate tangible ROI.
  • Create detailed technical specifications, reference architectures, and implementation roadmaps for AI initiatives.
  • Coordinate cross-functional teams including data scientists, business analysts, and IT infrastructure.
  • Facilitate design thinking workshops to rapidly prototype AI solutions and drive stakeholder engagement.
  • Collaborate with operational leaders and embedded analysts to ensure AI integration into daily workflows.
  • Serve as a thought leader, internally and externally, advocating and educating on the potential and practical application of Generative AI.
  • Track adoption and effectiveness of AI solutions and refine as needed.Help shape the enterprise-wide AI strategy across employee productivity, commercial and lab operation teams.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical field (Master's preferred)
  • 7+ years of experience in solution architecture, with at least 3 years focused on AI/ML implementations
  • Proven track record of delivering enterprise-scale technology solutions from concept to production with commercial stakeholders
  • Hands-on experience with data technologies
  • Expertise in at least one programming language (Python preferred, Java/C# acceptable)
  • Experience with API design, microservices architecture, and enterprise integration patterns
  • Excellent communication skills with ability to explain complex technical concepts to business audiences
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with a data-driven approach
  • Ability to influence and build consensus across technical and business stakeholders
  • Strategic thinking with the ability to connect technical capabilities to business outcomes
  • Self-motivated with ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities

  • Experience in SG&A functions (sales operations, marketing analytics, medical affairs)
  • Knowledge of specific AI use cases: predictive analytics, NLP, computer vision, process automation

At BillionToOne, we are proud to offer a combination of a (1) base pay range (actual amount offered is based on experience and salary/equity options split that the candidate chooses), (2) generous equity options offering, (3) corporate bonus program, on top of (4) industry leading company benefits (free healthcare options, 401k match, very generous fully paid parental leave, etc.).

For this position, we offer a total compensation package of up to $441,802 per year, including a base pay range of $237,601 - $264,002 per year.
