Becker's Financial Services LLC, a Fargo-based sole proprietorship, is seeking a Senior Tax Accountant / CPA who would assist in managing and overseeing all tax-related activities for multiple clients in our firm during a busy tax season (primarily March 1 - April 15). Outside of a busy tax season and when not focused on tax-related role responsibilities, the right individual will serve our clients in managing their day-to-day accounting needs. A breakdown of the role follows.

Tax Season Responsibilities

This includes preparing and filing complex tax returns, ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations, and identifying opportunities for tax savings. The role requires advanced knowledge of tax laws, and strong analytical skills. Your responsibilities include:

  • Tax preparation and compliance: Prepare and review a variety of complex tax returns, including those for individuals, corporations (S and C corps), partnerships, and non-profits. This includes compiling supporting financial statements and documents, so you are prepared to respond to any inquiries from regulatory agencies.
  • Tax Research and planning: Conduct in-depth tax research to stay current on new legislation and provide strategic advice on tax planning. Identify tax-saving opportunities and advise clients or leadership on the tax implications of business decisions, such as mergers and acquisitions.
  • Audits and inquiries: Assist with federal and state tax audits and respond to inquiries from regulatory agencies. Prepare financial records and documentation for external auditors.
  • Record keeping and process improvement: Maintain effective control procedures over the entire tax process. Identify and recommend process improvements to streamline tax procedures.
  • Collaboration: Communicate with Becker's Financial Services Principal and clients to support financial initiatives and provide guidance.

Day-to-Day Accounting Responsibilities

  • Oversee the day-to-day accounting activities of our clients, including ledger maintenance, reconciliations, and month-end close processes.
  • Prepare and analyze financial statements, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations.
  • Contribute to the budgeting process and provide insights for future financial planning.
  • Conduct variance analysis and provide recommendations for cost optimization and revenue enhancement.
  • Analyze financial data, identify opportunities to enhance accounting procedures and internal controls. and provide insights to management.
  • Assist with quarterly and annual payroll reports and year-end payroll compliance.

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance, CPA certification required.
  • Minimum of 5+ years of progressive tax accounting experience.
  • Thorough knowledge of accounting and financial reporting.
  • Proficient in accounting and tax software with an emphasis on QB Desktop, QB Online and ATX tax software.
  • A desire to work within a small organization where your impact will be highly evident.
