Summary of Job Duties:

This position works under the supervision of the section Supervisor and Senior Tech. This team member provides laboratory support for the TOSH OR and supports the main UAMS campus patient care activities. They will receive samples from the hospital and clinics, examine each specimen for collection suitability, order testing in Epic if needed, and deliver samples to the testing departments. There may be driving around the main campus required to support operations at TOSH This position also assists with training new employees, assists with QA and/or QI projects as assigned, works with the laboratory departments and clinical teams to resolve issues, and reports workflow problems along with possible resolutions. This position's schedule could change due to staffing issues with a two week notice.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

High School diploma or GED equivalent and two (2) years of experience as a Lab Tech or Assistant in a Clinical Laboratory

Job Requirements:

• Receive, log, label, and transport biological or chemical samples between departments.
• Prepare materials for analysis (centrifugation, aliquoting, labeling).
• Ensure proper storage (e.g., refrigeration, freezing) and chain-of-custody tracking.
• Perform routine cleaning, calibration, and basic troubleshooting of lab equipment.
• Coordinate maintenance schedules with vendors or internal teams.
• Operate more complex instruments (centrifuges, autoclaves, biosafety cabinets, etc.).
• Maintain stock of lab consumables and reagents across multiple labs.
• Order, receive, and distribute lab materials and chemicals.
• Track expiration dates, backorders, and material traceability.
• Enforce lab safety procedures (PPE, chemical handling, biohazard disposal).
• Conduct inspections and report compliance issues (e.g., expired reagents, mislabeled samples).
• Assist in preparing for audits (GMP, GLP, ISO, CLIA, etc.).
• Perform other duties as needed
