Job Description

The Agency You'll Join:

The NYC Mayor's Office of Equity & Racial Justice (MOERJ) was established in October 2023 as the City of New York's centralized agency to advance equity. Our mandate is rooted in a simple but powerful belief that every New Yorker deserves the chance to live, work, and thrive with dignity.

To realize that vision, MOERJ brings together several key initiatives and offices, including the NYC Commission on Gender Equity (CGE), NYC Her Future (NHF), the NYC Young Men's Initiative (YMI), and the NYC Unity Project (UP), as well as cross-agency bodies like the NYC Pay Equity Cabinet (PEC) and the NYC Taskforce on Racial Inclusion & Equity (TRIE). Together, we create a unified framework for addressing the many ways inequity shows up in daily life.

The Problems You'll Solve:

The Mayor's Office of Equity & Racial Justice (MOERJ) seeks a highly organized and dynamic Executive Coordinator to serve as a core member of the team, providing direct support and reporting to the NYC Chief Equity Officer and Commissioner of MOERJ while ensuring smooth day-to-day operations across the office. The Executive Coordinator works closely with colleagues in Facilities, IT, and other departments to provide organizational support at the office-wide level, troubleshoot issues, keep information flowing, and help staff stay informed. The Executive Coordinator also plays a key role in supporting team culture helping to welcome new employees and collaborating with the Chief of Staff on team meetings, retreats, appreciation activities, and other internal events.

The Executive Coordinator will engage regularly with senior leaders across MOERJ and throughout the City. This role offers significant opportunities for mentorship and professional growth and is ideal for someone passionate about equity and social justice and interested in developing a long-term career in administration and operations.

Responsibilities:

Key duties include, but are not limited, to the below.

  • Manage external inquiries via phone, email, mail, and other communication channels
  • Manage equipment and supply inventory for the office, including fulfilling orders and handling asset management and tracking
  • Support preparation for staff onboarding and offboarding
  • Support the MOERJ Administration team with small purchases and related fiscal tasks, as needed
  • Serve as the primary office and space liaison, coordinating with building management and facilities, the Department of Citywide Administrative Services (DCAS), and suite mates, as well as communicating relevant updates to staff and handling routine requests
  • Coordinate with IT on new needs, troubleshoot office-wide issues, and ensure staff have accurate and updated guidance
  • Design and implement operational processes, as assigned, to improve overall flow and function of office
  • Lead or support special projects across MOERJ, as assigned
  • Perform other related duties, as assigned, to drive smooth, streamlined, and sustainable office operations

About You:

  • High School diploma (or high school equivalency) and three (3) or more years with administrative and/or operations experience.
  • Associate or bachelor's degree in business administration, public administration, or a related field, a plus.
  • Interest in racial equity and addressing socio-economic, health, gender, and other disparities.
  • Interest in and comfortable working in a fast-paced and evolving environment.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Demonstrated professional relationship-building experience.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities, think proactively, take initiative, and problem-solve effectively.
