Senior Backend Software Engineer

Our Comms Platform team plays a pivotal role in ensuring seamless transactional communication with our customers through email, SMS, and push notifications. We are focused on modernizing our platform, enhancing availability, and pursuing internationalization to fuel our organization's growth.
As a Senior Backend Software Engineer, you will own and drive quarterly goals for your team. You will lead engineers through open-ended challenges and ensure that everyone is backed up during the development process.
Your role will involve:
- Collaborating with product management, design, and analytics to support peers and stakeholders in the product development lifecycle.
- Identifying and advocating for solutions to project, process, technology, or business issues.
- Monitoring metrics and supporting the operational integrity of your team's outputs.
- Encouraging a culture of quality and ownership by setting and improving code review and design standards.
- Developing talent through feedback, guidance, and leading by example.
This position includes participation in an on-call rotation.
We're looking for candidates with:
- 5+ years of experience designing and launching backend systems using languages like Python or Kotlin.
- A history of developing highly available distributed systems with technologies like AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes.
- Strong skills in defining technical plans for delivering significant features or components with a focus on elegance and extensibility.
- Proficiency in managing large codebases safely and effectively.
- A proactive approach to personal growth and feedback.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective collaboration.
This position requires either equivalent practical experience or a Bachelor's degree in a related field.
Compensation & Benefits:
Base Pay Grade - N
Equity Grade - 4
At Affirm, we offer transparency in our pay structure, which is influenced by location, experience, and skillset. The base pay is part of a comprehensive compensation package that includes health, wellness, and tech stipends, alongside benefits like fully subsidized medical coverage, dental, and vision.
Base pay range per year: 85,000 - 115,000
