Coinbase is currently looking for Senior Backend Engineers to join our teams within the Platform Product Group. Our mission within this group is to create a reliable, scalable, and compliant platform that maximizes velocity, efficiency, and quality. We lay the groundwork that enables various products and teams at Coinbase to provide users with a consistent and high-quality experience.

As a Senior Backend Engineer at Coinbase, you will develop the next generation of crypto-focused products and features, tackling unique, large-scale, and highly complex technical challenges that bridge the realms of web-scale applications and blockchain technology. You will help create systems that make cryptocurrency accessible globally, operating real-time applications with high frequency and low latency while ensuring the security of our cloud-based, dockerized infrastructure.

Your Responsibilities:

• Develop new services to fulfill critical product and business needs using Golang.
• Design scalable systems that tackle novel problems utilizing modern cloud technology and industry best practices.
• Develop a long-term vision for maintaining and expanding our backend systems and the teams that manage them.
• Collaborate with engineers, designers, product managers, and senior leadership to convert our product and technical goals into actionable roadmaps each quarter.
• Write high-quality, well-tested code that meets customer needs.

What We Look For:

• At least 5 years of experience in software engineering.
• Experience designing, building, scaling, and maintaining production services, with a solid understanding of service-oriented architecture.
• A commitment to producing high-quality, thoroughly tested code that addresses customer requirements.
• A genuine passion for developing an open financial system that unites the world.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience navigating a company through rapid growth (from startup to mid-size).
• Familiarity with growth experiments or A/B testing frameworks.
• Knowledge of Blockchain technology (e.g., Bitcoin, Ethereum).
• Experience in breaking down a large monolith into microservices.
• Hands-on experience with Golang, Ruby, Docker, Rails, Postgres, MongoDB, or DynamoDB.
• Background in developing financial systems with high reliability and security.
• Experience with crypto, including familiarity with onchain activities like Ethereum address interactions, using ENS, and engaging with dApps or blockchain-based services.

Pay Transparency Notice: The target annual salary for this position ranges from $186,065 to $218,900 USD, depending on your work location. Full-time offers from Coinbase also include bonuses, equity, and benefits such as medical, dental, vision, and 401(k).
