Senior Backend Software Engineer for Financial Platforms

We are looking for a Senior Backend Software Engineer to be a part of our innovative Servicing International team, crucial to Affirm's global expansion.

This role will focus on enhancing purchase protection features—including disputes and refunds—ensuring trust and satisfaction for our expanding customer base. You'll work in deep collaboration with engineers across Europe and our global Servicing Engineering organization to develop cohesive and scalable solutions.

What You'll Do:

  • Lead your team by owning and achieving quarterly goals, guiding engineers through challenges to deliver effective solutions while ensuring support throughout the process.
  • Collaborate with product management, design, and analytics teams during the product development lifecycle, participating in ideation and articulating technical constraints to balance risks and trade-offs.
  • Proactively identify and advocate for solutions to project, process, technology, or business issues to drive improvements.
  • Ensure the reliability and availability of your team's artifacts by creating and monitoring performance metrics, and supporting operational efforts.
  • Promote a culture of quality and ownership by setting and advancing code review and design standards within your team and beyond.
  • Mentor and develop talent within your team by providing constructive feedback, guidance, and leading through example.
  • Participate in on-call rotation as needed.

What We Look For:

  • 4+ years of software engineering experience.
  • Expertise in designing, developing, and launching scalable backend systems using technologies like Python, Kotlin, AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes.
  • Experience shipping web applications with declarative UI frameworks such as React or Vue.
  • Ability to define and implement a technical plan for significant features or system components with elegant and extensible designs, delivering high-quality, easily understandable code.
  • Proficiency in managing significant changes within large codebases, developing safe tools and practices.
  • A proactive approach to personal growth, actively seeking feedback from peers, managers, and stakeholders.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to facilitate effective collaboration with our global engineering teams.

Compensation & Benefits:

Base Pay Grade - N

Equity Grade - 4

New employees at Affirm generally start at the beginning of the pay range. We focus on a straightforward and transparent pay structure, considering factors like location, experience, and skill set. The annual base pay range for this role is $85,000 - $115,000.
