Join us and become part of an inclusive team. Client Overview: Our client is a reputable nonprofit organization in New York City that is seeking a Grant Accountant to join their Finance team. The organization manages a diverse portfolio of city, state, federal, and private grants and contracts, serving a wide range of community programs. This is an excellent opportunity for a detail-oriented Grant Accountant with experience in public grants to contribute to impactful work while advancing their career in nonprofit financial management. Salary/Hourly Rate: $30/hr - $40/hr (Based on experience) Position Overview: The Grant Accountant will be responsible for fiscal management, reporting, and compliance across multiple funding sources. This role requires prior experience working with NYC, NYS, federal, and private grants and contracts, including funders such as DYCD, ACS, OMH, DHS, and Medicaid. The ideal candidate will ensure accuracy in financial reporting, adherence to funding requirements, and timely submission of reimbursement requests and budget modifications. Responsibilities of the Grant Accountant:
  • Manage the fiscal administration of assigned grants and contracts, ensuring compliance with funder and organizational guidelines.
  • Prepare and monitor grant budgets, expense allocations, and financial reports.
  • Review expenditures for accuracy and eligibility in accordance with contract terms.
  • Track and reconcile receivables, reimbursements, and grant revenue.
  • Assist with month-end and year-end closings related to restricted funding.
  • Support audit preparation, including providing documentation and reconciliations.
  • Collaborate with program and development staff to ensure accurate financial tracking of grant activities.
  • Maintain strong working relationships with funders, ensuring timely submission of invoices and reports.
Required Experience/Skills for the Grant Accountant:
  • 3+ years of experience in grant or contract accounting, within a nonprofit or government-funded environment.
  • Working knowledge of NYC, NYS, Federal, and private funders (e.g., DYCD, ACS, OMH, DHS, Medicaid).
  • Strong understanding of fund accounting, budget management, and reporting requirements.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting systems (e.g., Fund EZ, QuickBooks, NetSuite, or similar).
Education Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is highly preferred.
