Schedule of Hours: M-F, 9:00AM-5:00PM, as needed outside of standard work hours

Position Remote Eligible: Hybrid - onsite work required and expected

ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION

CORA's mission is to provide safety, support and healing for individuals who experience abuse in an intimate relationship, and educate the community to break the cycle of domestic violence.

CORA is the only agency in San Mateo County with the sole purpose of serving victims/survivors of domestic violence/abuse. We are a multicultural agency committed to serving victims/survivors, regardless of age, ethnicity/race, financial status, language, sexual orientation, immigration status, class, religion, gender, mental or physical ability.

We provide free and confidential emergency, intervention and prevention services, including the county's only emergency shelter and transitional housing for victims/survivors and services in Spanish and English.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Volunteer Manager is a key member of our development team, responsible for the comprehensive management of our volunteer and in-kind giving program. This includes the strategic planning, recruitment, training, scheduling, and retention of a dedicated volunteer workforce. Additionally, this position implements the stewardship of in-kind giving for the agency. This role is within the Development Department of the agency and is integral to the engagement of community stakeholders in supporting the agency through the gifts of time and in-kind gifts. The ideal candidate is a passionate leader with strong organizational skills who can create a supportive and engaging environment for our volunteers, ensuring their efforts align with and amplify the mission of CORA.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Volunteer Engagement
  • Identify program, board and outreach needs across the agency for volunteer and in-kind support.
  • Design, develop and implement creative strategies to recruit a diverse range of new volunteers/ in-kind donors. This includes the development of clear meaningful volunteer service descriptions.
  • Build partnerships with schools, faith-based organizations, corporate partners and civic organizations. In collaboration with Dev Team, promote volunteer and in-kind giving through social media and website.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for all volunteer and in-kind giving inquiries.
  • Conduct volunteer orientation sessions, intake interviews, screening and background check processes for new volunteers.
  • Create and manage schedules for volunteers across ongoing programs and special events.
    • Provide ongoing guidance, support, and constructive feedback to volunteers to ensure a successful and rewarding experience/ address and resolve conflicts or issues that may arise among volunteers.
Volunteer Maintenance and Recognition
  • Act as a resource for staff members who work with volunteers, offering training and best practices for effective collaboration.
  • Develop and implement formal and informal volunteer recognition activities, such as newsletters, thank-you notes, awards, and appreciation events.
  • Gather and act on volunteer feedback to continuously improve the program.
Tracking and Reporting
  • Manage volunteer database in Bloomerang and through EmpowerDB and Excel to track hours, assignments, and volunteer records.
  • Oversee in-kind donation receipts and ensure correct processing with finance team.
  • Track and report on key volunteer and in-kind metrics, such as hours served, retention rates, and program impact, to stakeholders and the board.
  • Provide regular updates to leadership on the status and effectiveness of the volunteer and in-kind program.
Qualifications
  • Experience: 2 years' experience in volunteer program coordination or a related role within the nonprofit sector is preferred.
  • Education: AA or bachelor's degree is preferred; relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a formal degree.
  • Skills:
  • Comfort in speaking to groups in public forums.
  • Proficiency with volunteer management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Bilingual candidates, especially in English/ Spanish, preferred.
WORK ENVIRONMENT/ PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Ability to lift, carry and move a minimum of 20 pounds.
  • Successful results upon hire from a DOJ Live Scan fingerprint clearance are required/
  • Driver's License and active insurance required.
  • Experience working with survivors of domestic violence preferred, including completion of 40-hour domestic violence training. Candidates who have not completed the training will be required to do so.
