Duties

Help

You will serve as a/an Carpenter Supervisor and be responsible for providing technical and administrative supervision for carpenters, painters, and a locksmith for work accomplished primarily in connection with the maintenance, repair and improvement of Academy facilities and roads and the support of Academy special events.

Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include:

  • Planning the use of subordinate workers, equipment, facilities, and materials.
  • Establishing deadlines, priorities, and work sequences.
  • Assigning work to individuals and providing technical direction and/or help in accomplishing difficult work steps and processes.
  • Performing administration responsibilities such as developing performance plans, evaluating employee performance, rewarding employees, and taking corrective action as needed.

Qualifications

Applicants will be evaluated on their ability to perform the duties of the position rather than the length of experience. Eligibility will be determined by the relevance, scope, and quality of all experience and training, regardless of where or how acquired.

Applicants will be rated and ranked based on their knowledge of the following job elements:
  • Ability to Lead or Supervise (Screen-out Element)
  • Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc.
  • Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic)
  • Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (includes blueprint reading)
  • Measurement and Layout
  • Ability to Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment* Knowledge of Materials
