For further information on the department, visit the Counseling and Resource Center web page at .Reporting to the Director and Assistant Director of Counseling and Wellness, counselors are responsible for providing culturally competent and social justice oriented individual and group counseling and outreach to ensure continued quality care and support for Edmonds College students.We accept applications for part-time counselors on an ongoing basis. If you wish to remain in the part-time pool beyond that time, you can update and resubmit your online application yearly. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Provide culturally competent and social justice brief individual (personal, career and student success) and group counseling services.Perform intake client evaluations and provide students with appropriate referral to community resources and services. Provide direct crisis assessment and response, intervention for students in distress with appropriate follow up and referralUse culturally responsive therapeutic modalities with diverse student populations (i.e. students of color, students with disabilities, first generation college students, international students, veteran students, LGBTQ+ students). Knowledge and awareness of clinical and liability concerns.Administer and interpret career assessments and standardized tests, e.g. the Strong Interest Inventory, the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator.Refer students to appropriate campus and community resources and services.Provide faculty and staff with consultation on student mental health concerns to promote students' development and academic successCreate and facilitate outreach events, workshops and presentations.Collaborate with student support service departments and staff such as Advising, Veterans Resource Center and Housing/Residential Life.Participate in Edmonds College department, division and campus-related professional activities.Perform related duties as required. REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:Master¿s degree in counseling, social work, or equivalent from an accredited program that included a supervised practicum and internship in a mental health setting including clinical assessment, counseling theory and skills, and crisis intervention with a diverse population.Two years of experience in a clinical mental health setting providing culturally responsive mental health services.Transcript documenting Master¿s level counseling/mental health coursework, including practicum and internship.Experience and training in: brief counseling approaches, evidence-based counseling practices, co-occurring disorders, drug and alcohol use assessment, self-injurious behaviors, and referral.Experience working with and supporting underrepresented populations/communities.Ability to work independently with little supervision and also be comfortable with necessary supervision.Ability to handle and complete tasks such as attending meetings, responding to emails, and completing clinical notes in a timely manner.Experience and training in crisis assessment, intervention, and referral to resources and appropriate providers.Demonstrated commitment to equity, inclusion, and belonging.PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:We invite you to apply even if you do not meet all of these preferred qualificationsExperience working in a higher education, such as at a university or community college.Experience in crisis intervention, suicide assessment, sexual assault and/or domestic violence counseling.Experience providing referrals to community mental health and other resources.Knowledge of and familiarity with Counselor RCW¿s and necessary compliance procedures.Multilingual ability.Scheduling flexibility and ability to work with grace under pressure and in a crisis.Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with on campus and community partners.Experience organizing, developing, and facilitating groups and workshops on campus.Licensed as a Mental Health Counselor, Marriage and Family Therapist, or Psychologist in the State of Washington.Experience providing mental health counseling to diverse communities.LICENSES:Must be licensed as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC or LMHC-A) or Licensed Psychologist in Washington State. If licensed as a LMHC-A, must be actively working towards licensure as a LMHC and work under the supervision of an approved supervisor to gain the supervision and supervised experience necessary to become a licensed mental health counselor. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:Fostering equity, inclusion and belonging through multicultural awareness and responsiveness.Effective oral/written communication.Working and interacting effectively with colleagues, staff, students, and campus community.Brief therapeutic modalities.Applicable RCWs, WACs, professional and ethical guidelines, and HIPAA requirements for mental health professionals.Using personal computer, Word, Excel, Internet, email and other forms of technology and electronic records management, i.e. Titanium software and cTcLink.PHYSICAL WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work will be performed in an office setting (office alternately shared with other counselors and available only during counseling hours) and possibly in classroom/workshop setting. The work requires sitting and standing for extended periods of time and in a busy center. Ability to communicate fluently in English, both orally and in writing, is essential. Hours are not limited to, but will include Tuesdays until 7:00 PM and weekly staff meetings on Thursday from 11:-12:30.COMPENSATION:The work schedule is based on an eleven-week quarterly schedule and could vary each quarter. Salary is dependent upon contract load and mode of instruction. A standard five-credit "lecture mode" class would be approximately $6,387.94 at Step A.
