Position Overview Associate Faculty Pool, Anthropology (PT Faculty)SALARY: A five-credit "lecture mode" class would be approximately $6,387.94LOCATION: Lynnwood WashingtonDESCRIPTION:Edmonds College and the Humanities and Social Sciences Division invite applications for an associate faculty Anthropology Instructor. The college seeks faculty who can adapt to a variety of teaching situations, use technology effectively to teach, and work effectively with students, staff, and others in a campus climate that promotes cultural diversity and student success.Faculty members are responsible for the following: teaching assigned classes to a diverse student body in classroom, lab, and field settings combined with online course management and/or within an online/hybrid model; developing curriculum; preparing teaching materials; developing and assessing student learning outcomes to evaluate student work; assigning grades; maintaining required records; and advising and consulting with students to support their success.Instructors will be responsible for teaching anthropology courses in one or more of the following areas of specialization: Survey of Anthropology, Cultural Anthropology, Archaeology, Linguistic Anthropology, and/or Bioanthropology. The instructor will also be responsible for working with Anthropology and Diversity Studies department chairs in the maintenance and ongoing development of the college's program of community-based service-learning. Other responsibilities include participation in the following: achievement of the College's mission and goals; upholding the College's values; governance of the College via department and division work; required professional development and college in-service activities (including employee orientation and college compliance trainings); personal and program evaluation. The teaching assignment may include early morning or late afternoon/evening classes and could include online teaching as well.Faculty may be offered Special Assignment projects that align with Departmental Projects (to support the instruction of archaeology field school and archaeology lab methods classes during the 2025 summer field school), based on candidates experience and qualifications. In a special assignment role, the faculty would maintain both the archaeological collections and support maintenance and the digital catalog of the department¿s archaeological teaching collection. Finally, the faculty will be responsible for preparing the subsequent site report. Work is directed by the Department Head. Special Assignment project work is paid at the special assignment rate of $45 per hour and meetings are paid according to the CBA stipend rate. If you wish to remain in the part-time pool beyond that time, you can update and resubmit your online application yearly.REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:Master of Arts or Sciences degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, Bioanthropology or related discipline with substantive graduate level course work, teaching, and/or research in Anthropology.Demonstrated commitment to community-based service-learning.Excellent verbal, listening, problem-solving, critical thinking, and writing skills.DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:Ability to work effectively with students and staff of various cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.Competence to teach courses with multicultural perspectives in a community college setting with a focus on student learning.Commitment to an anti-racist and decolonizing pedagogy. Experience with the use of online course management systems, i.e. Canvas.Ability to impart excitement and enthusiasm into teaching.Ability to adapt to a variety of teaching situations, including a wide range of student preparedness and characteristics. Experience directing a crew during testing and/or data recovery excavations at a historical archaeological site.Demonstrated experience performing historical archaeological artifact analysis and cataloging.Demonstrated experience writing a testing/data recovery site report.Strong writing and communication skills, with the ability to speak in public and with students, community members, tribal communities, faculty, and colleagues Strong organization skills, with the ability to organize, inventory, maintain, and repair lab and field equipmentWashington Driver¿s License, insurance, and a good driving recordPHYSICAL WORK ENVIRONMENT:Work is typically performed in a classroom, office, or online from home and requires standing and/or sitting for extended periods of time. The ability to communicate effectively is essential. Instructors are required to use a computer in the work environment. The ability to navigate difficult terrain in field settings is required.COMPENSATION:The work schedule is based on an eleven-week quarterly schedule and could vary each quarter. Salary is dependent upon contract load and mode of instruction. A standard five-credit "lecture mode" class would be approximately $6,387.94 at Step A.
