Extensive knowledge of university policy and procedures that apply to the matriculation and the academic, personal, and professional development of undergraduate students is required. For full consideration, applicants must submit a resume/CV and cover letter with their application.Key responsibilities of this individual include: Implement major exploration strategy for all Smeal students across the University in collaboration with Smeal departments, First-Year Seminar, Smeal student organizations, Smeal Ethical Leadership Challenge, Undergraduate Advising, Business Career Center and other unitsCoordinate with Smeal departments and faculty to plan and deliver Smeal major exploration events throughout the academic yearServe as a resource for academic advisers and studentsProvide academic advising to undergraduate students; guiding students in course selection and scheduling; resolve academic problems; monitor degree progressAssess student needs and make professional referralsInterpret university policies, procedures and curriculum to students and faculty in the collegeContribute to advising committees and/or working groups related to areas that may include student success, diversity and inclusion, assessment and evaluation, academic policies and/or staff developmentAdditionally, other duties include meeting with prospective students and families and participating in various college programs such as Accepted Student Events, New Student Orientation, Spend A Summer Day, and other programs as assigned. This position requires interaction with students, parents, faculty, and various college staff members and may require occasional weekend and evening hours.The successful candidate will have:Master’s degree plus a minimum of six years of relevant experience in advising, admissions or other student related roles, or an equivalent combination of education and experience A strong background in academic advising with a proven track record and commitment to serving students with varied life experiences and educational needsCompetencies critical to success include excellent interpersonal and communication skills; strong attention to detail; commitment to honor and integrity; sensitivity to the needs of others; ability to work independently and as part of a team; effective knowledge of computer applications, and efficiently manage time, balance multiple responsibilities, and adapt to change.This position is supportive of flexible work arrangements when aligned with the ability to meet the needs of the unit and the essential duties of the position.
