Description Founded in 1992, the Barbara and Edward Netter Center for Community Partnerships is the University's primary vehicle for advancing civic and community engagement at Penn. It brings together the resources and assets of both the University and the wider community to help solve universal problems such as poverty, health inequities, environmental sustainability, and inadequate, unequal education as they are manifested in the University's local geographic area of West Philadelphia and Philadelphia at large. The Netter Center develops and helps implement democratic, mutually transformative, place-based partnerships between Penn and West Philadelphia that advance research, teaching, learning, practice, and service and improve the quality of life on campus and in the community. The Netter Center works with and serves as a model for other higher education institutions across the United States and around the world. The Netter Center’s university-assisted community schools (UACS) is a strategy to educate, engage, empower, and serve all members of the community in which the school is located and engage students (K-16+) in real world, community problem solving. Duties/Job Responsibilities:School day, OST/afterschool and Summer Program Supervision and Implementation:In partnership with Netter staff, University partners, school administration, afterschool instructors, UACS teacher-partners and Penn students, select, design, coordinate and implement programs that improve student academic achievement using youth-centered and problem-solving learning approaches. Consult with the program’s director, principals, and teachers to ensure the program goals are being met.This position will work closely with ABCS courses and facilitate connections to faculty partners. Ensure that all programs meet funder compliance guidelines.Staff & University Student Supervision:Supervise and coordinate part-time temp staff, Penn students and volunteers engaged in school day, afterschool and summer programming. Including:Schedule staff programming schedulescoordination and implementation of training and professional learningconvening regular staff “team time” check-in meetingsconvening site-based stakeholder meetingsmaintain communications within staff groups about site-related programs and information.Evaluation & Data Collection | Program Compliance:Work with the Data & Evaluation team to record, track and maintain student participant program enrollment and daily attendance in compliance with funders and the Netter Center guidelines. This includes management of student completion of required paperwork for grant-funded programs.Evaluate and adjust program offerings to ensure targeted students’ needs are being achieved. Collaborate with evaluation partners and provide feedback into program design; collaborate with other programs, staff, teachers and Penn students to ensure best program practices and sharing of resources; collaborate with Netter colleagues across all school sites to build team learning and best practices.UACS Program Operations:Convene with school administration, faculty and Penn-based faculty and partners to plan and coordinate school-based program operations such as special program-related event planning, materials and supplies ordering, ensuring staff have required compliance documents.Communicate with funded-program liaisons about programs, enrollment and attendance.Supervise the implementation of OST/afterschool & summer program including developing lesson plans, program supplies & materials, program calendars, special events, and student rosters; plan activities with other staff and implement programming that meets the needs of enrolled youth, adult caregivers and funder guidelines.Communications:Maintain regular written and verbal communications with the UACS teams, school administration, school-based and Penn-based partners to keep all parties informed about program developments and updates. Act as a liaison with community partners and collaborate with all Netter and Penn colleagues across all school sites to build team learning and best practices via presentations and other multimodal communication methods.Other duties as assignedThis position is contingent upon grant funding. Qualifications:Bachelors degree and 2 to 3 years of experience working with high school-aged (grades 9-12) students or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Strong experience with community schools, preferably university-assisted community schools, and service learning, preferably academically-based community service, reading and writing literacy and youth workforce development strongly preferred. Knowledge about Penn and West Philadelphia preferred. Experience in facilitating successful youth development programs, collaborative endeavors, and managing multiple programs at once. Track record of both self-directed and team-oriented accomplishments.
