Medical Director Physician, Stroke Program

The Medical Director provides full scope of patient care services including but not limited to diagnosis, treatment, coordination of care, preventive care and health maintenance to The Brooklyn Hospital Center. Serves as the clinical leader of the interdisciplinary team to manage inpatients presenting with stroke symptoms and achieve improve health outcomes for patients and their families. Utilizes evidence-based diagnosis and treatment guidelines to provide the highest quality of care to patients of The Brooklyn Hospital Center. Examines patients, elicits and records medical information, orders and executes various tests. In addition, participates with other interdisciplinary team members in order to ensure that the care and processes related to stroke care continues to improve and receive distinction in the community for the quality of care provided. The Director complies with, all hospital policies and procedures, as well as pertinent state and federal regulations.
- Serves as the Medical Director the Hospital Stroke Program.
- Supervises and teaches Internal Medicine Residents in Neurology, medical students and non-physician personnel.
- Ensures timely completion of documentation to include, among others:
- Quality Data and presentation to Medicine Clinical Services Committee and Institutional Quality Programs.
- Progress and consultation notes
- Co-signatures of various forms in the electronic medical record
- Submission of billing information
- Other documents as required by the Hospital and Department of Internal Medicine.
- Collaborates with other services as directed by the Medical Director.
- Provides care to Hospital patients, as outlined in The Brooklyn Hospital Center Employment Agreement and medical staff credentialing, including diagnosis, treatment and referral, in accord with recognized medical standards.
- Documents patient care data in electronic medical records system, including consult notes, daily progress notes for inpatients, and encounters for outpatients.
- Prescribes medication in accordance with applicable New York State statutes and regulations.
- Orders, performs and interprets diagnostic tests to obtain information on medical condition and determine diagnosis.
- Advises and/or provides education to patients, family, guardians, caregivers and community members.
- Explains procedures and discuss tests results to patients, family members.
- Monitors patient's conditions and progress and reevaluate treatment plans, as necessary.
- Refers patients to medical specialist or other practitioner when necessary.
- Ensures compliance with the Infection Control and Safety standards of The Brooklyn Hospital Center which include personal use of universal precautions.
- Participates in staff outreach and off-site healthcare programs in The Brooklyn Hospital Center ambulatory care service areas, as assigned by Medical Director.
- Attends departmental staff meetings and other meetings and committees as requested by the Medical Director and/or Department Chair.
- Participates in peer review, quality assurance, provider meetings and other clinical meetings.
- Assists in updating clinical protocols and guidelines, as requested.
- Participates in in-service education and attends continuing medical (CME) programs.
- Maintains HIPAA confidentiality and privacy standards at all times.
- Works with support, medical and administrative staff in a positive, collaborative manner.
- Contributes to the training of clinical personnel, including medical students and residents. May supervise mid-level practitioners (Physician Assistants, Nurse Practitioners).
- Participates in the Hospital's quality improvement programs.
- Performs other related duties as assigned
EDUCATION:
- Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.)
- Graduate of accredited Residency Program
LICENSURE:
- New York State Department of Health Certificate of Qualification
- New York State Licensed Physician
CERTIFICATION:
- Board certified or board eligible in Neurology, Neurosurgery, Interventional Neuro-Radiology, Vascular Neurology or Neuro-Critical Care. The Medical Director shall attest to eight (8) hours of stroke focused continuing education annually. The Medical Director may not be concurrently a Stroke Medical Director at another hospital.
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS)
