Position Summary:

The Director of Human Resources is a senior leadership position, responsible for overseeing the district's human resources functions, including recruitment, employee relations, benefits, labor relations, compliance, professional development, and personnel management. The Director will collaborate with Académie Lafayette leadership, staff, and the community to ensure that the district attracts, retains, and supports a highly qualified and diverse workforce to enhance student learning and achievement.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Recruitment & Staffing
  • Develop and implement effective recruitment strategies to attract highly qualified candidates for all district positions.
  • Oversee the hiring process for certified and classified staff, ensuring compliance with district policies, labor agreements, and state/federal regulations.
  • Manage the recruitment of substitute teachers, paraprofessionals, and other temporary or specialized positions.
  • Promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in hiring practices.
  • Work with immigration attorneys and sponsors to secure necessary visas for foreign staff members. Determine prevailing wage semi-annually, or as needed, for visa salary requirements.
  • Employee Relations & Labor Relations
  • Provide guidance to district leadership regarding interpretation and implementation of employment agreements.
  • Resolve conflicts, grievances, and disciplinary matters in a fair, consistent, and legally compliant manner. Promote positive employee morale and foster a culture of collaboration and mutual respect.
  • Policy & Compliance
  • Ensure the district complies with all state and federal employment laws, including those related to equal employment opportunity, non-discrimination, employee safety, and wage and hour laws.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of legal and regulatory requirements affecting district employment policies and practices. Review and revise HR policies, procedures, and practices to align with best practices and legal requirements.
  • Employee Benefits & Compensation
  • Oversee employee benefit programs, including health insurance, retirement plans, leave policies, and other district benefits.
  • Ensure the district’s compensation and benefits packages remain competitive and equitable. Collaborate with finance and insurance providers to manage cost-effective benefits programs.
  • Professional Development
  • Develop and oversee employee training and professional development programs, including leadership development, instructional support, and compliance training. Ensure that new employee orientations, training programs, and ongoing professional development opportunities are available for all staff.
  • Human Resources Systems & Records Management
  • Manage HR software systems for efficient tracking of employee data, performance evaluations, attendance, and payroll information.
  • Ensure the accurate and timely processing of employee records, contracts, and certifications. Oversee the management of personnel files and ensure they are maintained in accordance with district policies and state/federal law.
  • Leadership & Strategy
  • Provide strategic leadership on human resources matters to support the district’s mission and vision.
  • Serve as a key member of the district leadership team, advising on organizational development, staffing needs, and employee performance. Promote a positive, inclusive, and supportive work environment for all employees.
  • Other Duties as Assigned
  • Act as the the district Title IX Coordinator
  • Perform other related duties as required to support the district’s human resources objectives.


Qualifications:

Education & Experience

  • Master’s degree in Human Resources, Education Administration, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in human resources management, with at least 3 years in a leadership or supervisory role, preferably in an educational setting.
  • Experience in labor relations, including contract negotiations and grievance resolution.
  • Experience managing employee benefit programs, performance evaluations, and professional development initiatives
  • Proficiency in French preferred

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of employment laws and regulations, including Title IX, FMLA, ADA, and other relevant laws.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex HR operations with attention to detail, organization, and compliance.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to collaborate with diverse groups of employees, parents, students, and community stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to evaluate data and make informed decisions.
  • Knowledge of HR information systems (HRIS) and other office software (Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, etc.).

Certifications & Licenses

  • PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP certification preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license (for travel between district sites, if applicable).

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to sit, stand, and move around the office and district sites.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
  • Frequent use of computer and telephone for extended periods.

Work Environment:

  • Office-based environment, with occasional travel between district locations.
  • Occasional evening or weekend work required for meetings, events, or special projects.
