Position Summary:

The Student Life Case Manager functions in a direct service role at Mansfield Hall, and is expected to embody the mission, values, philosophy, and approach of the organization. The Student Life Case Manager manages a caseload of students under the direct supervision of the Director of Student Life. The Student Life Case Manager is an active member of daily operations and initiatives and must work collaboratively with the Mansfield Hall team to foster a positive and inclusive community atmosphere. They will also effectively mentor students in the key Mansfield Hall core areas of Living and Engaging.

Essential Functions:

  • Provide exceptional student life case management for a caseload of up to 15 students, when caseload is smaller they will hold broader coaching responsibilities alongside case management responsibilities.
  • Conduct weekly coaching sessions with students to support intrinsic motivation, growth, and goal setting within the core areas of Mansfield Hall.
  • Communicate with parents and key stakeholders through written or verbal reports on a weekly basis around the supports and structures in place to support growth and skill development for their students.
  • Assess supports to be added, removed, or modified to student plans on a regular basis, under the direction of the Director of Student Life.
  • Participate in weekly team meetings to review current support plans, evaluate their implementation, execution and efficacy, and ensure alignment among staff and with the program's mission, vision, and values.
  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of students’ medication needs and provide targeted support to help them build the skills necessary to achieve consistent and independent medication management.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with all members of the student life and academic teams to ensure programmatic goals are being met.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Student Life and student and other stakeholders in building each individualized student MAP (Making Action Plans) and chart the progress of the student’s individualized plan by conducting weekly goal setting, goal review, and coaching sessions with students.
  • Implement evidence-based strategies to help empower students and improve executive functioning, self-advocacy, independent living, and pro-social communication skills.
  • Support the management of various services and activities related to a student’s enrollment (including, but not limited to, doctor’s appointments, therapist appointments, travel arrangements, attending to residential living needs, etc.).
  • Refer and liaison with students' additional providers such as therapist, psychiatrist, occupational therapist, or speech and language pathologist.
  • Attend weekly Community meetings, staff meetings, and serve on various committees.
  • Facilitate the completion of formal and informal assessment tools, such as the BRIEF and Pathway to Independence Inventory.
  • Read academic and student life notes and ensure accurate daily reporting of student progress.
  • Maintain detailed, accurate, and timely internal documentation, including case notes for student interactions and student activities.
  • Perform other duties not specified, but essential to the functioning of the Mansfield Hall program.

Please note that employee schedules will work to meet the overall needs of their role and the site needs for the given term, semester, or year. For all positions we make every effort possible to set schedules that allow employees to have two days off in a row. All staff will be expected to work a schedule that could include some evening and/or weekend hours. Supervisors will be expected to work some hours outside of their regular schedule to ensure they have opportunities to shadow their staff on their shifts.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A bachelor's degree in behavioral sciences or related fields; a graduate degree preferred.
  • Two or more years of experience working in or with diverse learners, higher education settings, multiple stakeholders, or a combination of these.
  • Experience supporting families and stakeholders around student academic/social growth and development in a higher education environment

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to develop strong professional relationships with community partners (therapists, campus and community resources, etc.)
  • Proven success working independently (in a flex space environment at times) and in a team
  • A passion for supporting team goals and success
  • Ability to positively impact our fun and inclusive work and living environment
  • Strong organizational and administrative skills that reflect a customer service focus, attention to detail, and effective systems management
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Effective problem solving, conflict resolution, and negotiation skills
  • Solid interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills, including the ability to effectively synthesize and summarize information
  • Knowledge of social communication challenges, executive functioning deficits, ADHD, learning disabilities, Asperger’s Syndrome, nonverbal learning disabilities, and mild autism.
  • Familiarity with Collaborative Problem Solving, Motivational Interviewing, Universal Design for Learning, Social Thinking, and Restorative Justice.

Working Conditions:

Internal- Work is usually performed in a climate-controlled office environment, where exposure to conditions of extreme heat/cold, poor ventilation, fumes, and gases is very limited. Noise level is moderate and includes sounds of normal office equipment (people, computers, telephones, etc.). No known environmental hazards are encountered in the normal performance of job duties. We operate in a flex-space work environment that by nature may include distractions and interruptions.

External- Minimal local travel is required. Work outside the office normally takes place in community spaces on college campuses, although occasionally work may include work in residence hall or apartment environments.

Physical Demands:

Work involves standing and walking for brief periods of time, but most duties are performed from a seated position. There is potential for eyestrain from reading detailed materials and computer work. The ability to lift up to 30 pounds (office equipment, paper, etc.) is required. Deadlines, workloads during peak periods, and changing priorities may cause increased stress levels. Work normally requires finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination to operate computer keyboards at a moderate skill level. Repetitive motion injuries may occur. Mansfield Hall will provide adaptive devices as needed.
