PRIMARY PURPOSETo provide fast, easy, flexible and friendly service to our customers through the achievement of Food Lion customer service standards. To be friendly, courteous and cooperative with other store associates. Responsible for assisting the Customer Service Manager and the Assistant Customer Service Manager in maintaining standards according to Front End Standard Practice Manual, maximizing sales through excellent customer service.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Smile and provide prompt, accurate and friendly service while engaging customers to create a positive shopping experience
- Greet each customer and use their name whenever possible
- Unload customers’ groceries from cart to belt, grouping cold items together for ease of bagging
- Check the bottom of every cart and under all baby seats for items before completing an order
- Follow correct bagging procedures for the appropriate use of bags by type
- Scan customers' orders and handle payment transactions per standard practice
- Avoid personal conversations with other associates when customers are present
- Follow procedures for handling cash, checks, coupons, gift cards, partner cards, food stamps, and WIC vouchers
- Follow procedures for refunds and error correction
- Make every attempt to maintain accurate cash control
- Follow procedures and perform overrides
- Identify customers needing assistance and offer to take their order to their car including Food Lion To-Go orders
- Maintain alertness and call for assistance to service customers per standards
- Check prices quickly and accurately
- Be courteous and helpful to other associates
- Wear the Food Lion uniform with apron and name badge, maintaining a neat appearance
- Retrieve shopping carts from the parking lot and cart corrals using the tether strap
- Ensure work station and front-end area is neat and clean
- Report any register malfunction to the Customer Service Manager or MOD
- Ensure the MVP savings center KIOSK is properly filled and functioning
- Observe and correct unsafe conditions to prevent accidents
- Notify QA of any cleaning issues or maintenance needed on front end
- Successfully complete computer-based training and training aid courses
- Perform cashier duties when scheduled or as needed
- Manage the front end in the absence of the CSM/ACSM to maintain service standards
- Act as a Food Lion To-Go Runner when scheduled or needed
- Ensure check stands are supplied with bags, register paper, Catalina coupon paper, and restock cigarette drawers
- Seek efficient ways to do the job and improve labor productivity
- Perform all other assigned duties
- High school graduate or equivalent preferred
- Effective communication and customer service skills
- Willingness to learn multiple tasks and technical job requirements
- Ability to meet minimum age requirements and perform position's physical requirements
- Use computers and communication systems for job functions
- Perform repetitive hand and arm motions
- Bend and lift products up to 15 lbs. continuously, 25 lbs. frequently, 50 lbs. occasionally
- Pull or push up to 75 lbs. occasionally
- Stand 100% of the time, walk short distances frequently
- Handle substances like cleaning materials, fresh fruits, and household cleaners
- Handle currency and operate equipment like cash registers and scanners
- Reach and grasp at waist level, occasionally above shoulder or below waist level
- Tolerate extreme hot/cold temperatures for up to 20 minutes
- Sufficient vision to check ID cards and other written documents
