Position Summary: The New York City Department of Education (DOE) is dedicated to creating and supporting partnerships among schools, families, and the community. As a central resource for family engagement, the Office of Family and Community Empowerment (FACE) strives to involve and inform parent leaders as essential partners in helping students achieve college and career readiness. FACE will develop and implement new strategies to strengthen the DOE’s efforts to engage and support public school parents and families throughout New York City.

The CCEC Election Outreach Coordinators will play a critical role in engaging with community members and building networks to promote the 2025 Community and Citywide Education Council (CCEC) Elections. We are seeking passionate, driven, and organized individuals to lead grassroots efforts in local communities across the city. They will encourage people to vote through direct action and advocacy and help eliminate disparities in the elections. Each coordinator will collect data to be used for metrics. Performs related work.

Reports to: CCEC Election Outreach Lead

Key Relationships: The Division of Family and Community Engagement and External Affairs, Education Councils, Presidents’ Council, PA/PTAs, School Leadership Teams (SLTs), community-based organizations (CBOs) and community leaders

Responsibilities
  • Community Engagement: Build and maintain relationships with key community leaders, local organizations, and residents.
  • Grassroots Mobilization: Organize events to inform and inspire active participation.
  • Outreach and Communication: Develop and execute strategies for outreach, including canvassing, phone banking, and digital campaigns.
  • Data Management: Track community engagement efforts, monitor progress, and report on outcomes.
  • Public Relations: Represent the campaign in community settings.
Qualifications

Minimum

  • High school graduation or equivalent and one (1) year of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above.

Preferred

  • Familiarity with the New York City public school system.
  • Familiarity with local issues, community dynamics, and the ability to work with diverse populations.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Experience with data collection.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills in Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.

Work Schedule: various work hours during the campaign, as needed

Salary: $40 hourly rate

(Internal candidates who are selected for this position and who currently hold comparable or less senior positions within the DOE will not earn less than their current salary.)
