Transit Railcar Tech Specialist I - $73,878 - $96,395

Transit Railcar Tech Specialist II - $87,701 - $110,411

Transit Railcar Tech Specialist III - $104,266 - $125,964

Transit Railcar Tech Specialist IV - $116,636 - $137,501


RESPONSIBILITIES:

The TRTS positions will analyze, research and plan railcar systems/parts that are required to keep Revenue and Non-Revenue Subway car fleets in good repair. They are responsible for reviewing and approving system-wide material forecasts, monitoring material usage vs. forecast usage for various shops and perform Internal Control Review (ICR). The incumbent will review documentation, SMS Plan, and illustrated parts catalog; perform research on parts and help Procurement with FAI's(First Article of Inspection. The incumbent will team up with Engineer, procurement staff and vendors to develop contracts for procurement and maintenance of railcars.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE :

1. A four year high school diploma or its educational equivalent, plus:

(a) Two years of full time satisfactory experience performing one of the following:

(i) Specialized work reviewing the design of railcars of moderate complexity; or

(ii) Supervising and inspecting the installation of electronic and/or electromechanical railcar components; or

(iii) Preparing plans and technical specifications for railcar equipment subsystems; and

(b) Four years of full time satisfactory experience as a fully trained mechanic in one or a combination of the following fields:

(i) Railroad power-operated railcar engineering and repair; or Supervision of railcar maintenance, manufacture or installation; OR

2. A four year vocational/technical high school diploma with a major sequence of courses in electrical, mechanical or electronic technology, or a closely related field, plus two years of full time satisfactory experience described in "1 (a)" above and three years of the full time satisfactory experience described in "1 (b)" above; OR

3. An associate degree from an accredited college with a major sequence of courses in electrical, mechanical, civil, transportation or computer engineering or electrical/electronic technology, plus two years of the full time satisfactory experience described in "1 (a)" above, and two years of the full time satisfactory experience described in "1 (b)" above; OR

4. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college with a major sequence of courses as described in "3" above, plus two years of the full time satisfactory experience described in "1 (a)" above; OR

5. A master's degree from an accredited college in one of the major fields described in "3" above plus one year of the full time satisfactory experience described in "1 (a)" above.


DESIRED SKILLS:

  • Knowledge of work car and freight cars, systems and components.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel and Access.
  • Experience with CAD software (e.g. Auto CAD, Microstation, Solid Edge, SolidWorks).
  • Ability to visit field locations on a 24 hour, 7 day/week basis in the performance of assigned tasks. Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
