Salary: $18.00 an hour

Hours: 30 hours

Primary Work Location: Sanford, ME and surrounding area

Summary:

The Direct Support Professional (DSP) will provide support to facilitate the independent living needs of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Each DSP works one on one with program members each day in the member’s home. DSPs help maintain and strengthen independence for individuals who are living at home with their families or roommates as well as members who live in their own homes/apartments with goals set by the individuals themselves annually.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Always ensure safety of members
  • Provide instructional support while assisting members with the implementation of their yearly Individual Service Agreement/Person-Centered Plan goals and encouraging independence
  • Promote quality community connections for members while seeking opportunities in recreational, social, and vocational activities
  • Timely completion of all required paperwork, i.e., daily notes, mileage logs, timesheets, progress notes, and incident reports
  • Provide transportation for members in the community using your personal vehicle (Mileage is reimbursed)
  • Be a positive role model with strong advocacy toward member rights and choice
  • Attend and participate in all required meetings including Individual Service Agreement/Person-Centered Plan meetings as an integral member of the team
  • Work with individuals who may display mal-adaptive/assaultive behaviors
  • Exposure to bodily fluids
  • Occasionally lift, bend, carry objective, and participate in other similar physical movements
  • Assist in housekeeping, health and nutrition appointments and topics, and budgeting/banking with members
  • Assist members with public transportation
  • Aid in hygiene supports to members
  • Work in various seasonal weather conditions
  • Hold a valid driver’s license and valid vehicle inspection sticker.
  • Carry mandatory auto insurance of no less than 100K/300K.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Valid Driver’s License with a legally registered vehicle
  • Carry Mandatory Auto Insurance of no less than 100K/300K
  • Excellent written (utilizing an electronic device) and verbal communication skills
  • Certified DSPs preferred; training will be provided if needed
  • Prior experience working with adults with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities preferred, but not required
  • First Aid & CPR Certified; training will be provided if needed
  • Must pass routine criminal background check, DHHS background check, motor vehicle check, and any others required to comply with Medicaid funding
