De-Escalation Specialist

The Richmond Redevelopment & Housing Authority (RRHA) is seeking a Part-Time De-Escalation specialist to join it’s Public Safety Division. We offer the challenge and opportunity of public service, a professional team environment, and competitive pay. This is a Grant-Funded Position.
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe position duties and responsibilities listed below describe the general nature and scope of work. Other responsibilities, duties, and skills may be required and assigned, as needed.
- The major responsibility of the De-Escalation specialist is to utilize his/her law enforcement, public relations, and leadership skills to promote awareness of and reduce major crimes within a specific geographical area within the City of Richmond.
- Performs related duties as assigned

Education and/or Experience (The following requirements may be used to evaluate applicants for employment. When applicable, equivalent substitution will be allowed for differences in experience and education.)
Education:
- Master’s degree preferred in a relevant field, such as psychology, social work, or behavioral science, but not required.
- Completion of a high school diploma or a GED program required
Experience: The candidate should have knowledge of current policies, guidelines, and initiatives related to gun violence, gangs, community violence reduction, and violence intervention/prevention programs.
Additional requirement: Must maintain a valid state driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
Strength RequirementsLight Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for sedentary work. Even though the weight lifted may be only a negligible amount, a job should be rated light work: (1) when it requires walking or standing to a significant degree; or (2) when it requires sitting most of the time but entails pushing or pulling of arm or leg controls; or (3) when the job requires working at a production rate pace entailing the constant pushing or pulling of materials even though the weight of those materials is negligible. NOTE: The constant stress and strain of maintaining a production rate pace, especially in an industrial setting, can be and is physically demanding of a worker even though the amount of force exerted is negligible.
