The Role: We are seeking a talented and detail-oriented Residential Interior Architectural Designer with expertise in luxury residential projects to join our growing interior design firm. The ideal candidate will collaborate closely with our Creative Director and design team to develop sophisticated, high-end interior architectural solutions that elevate and complement the luxury vision of our clients. You will be responsible for executing complex architectural interior layouts, custom detailing, and ensuring seamless integration of interior finishes, all while maintaining the highest standards of craftsmanship and design excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
Design & Development:
Collaborate with the Creative Director and senior design team to conceptualize and develop luxury interior architectural designs that align with client vision and project goals.
Create and refine detailed space planning, interior elevations, floor plans, sections, and custom millwork designs for high-end residential projects.
Research and select architectural finishes, materials, and details that enhance the overall design aesthetic, while ensuring functionality and adherence to building codes.
Produce design presentations, renderings, and mood boards to communicate the design vision effectively to clients and stakeholders.
Ensure architectural design concepts are cohesive with the overall interior design and the exterior architecture of the property.
Technical & Construction Documentation:
Prepare comprehensive architectural drawings, construction documentation, and detailed specifications, ensuring accuracy and adherence to industry standards and local regulations.
Develop custom cabinetry, millwork, and architectural details, including fireplaces, staircases, wall paneling, ceiling treatments, and other built-in features.
Coordinate with external consultants, such as engineers, lighting designers, and audio-visual specialists, to integrate technical requirements seamlessly into the architectural plans.
Liaise with contractors, builders, and trades to ensure precise implementation of design details during construction, providing oversight and guidance to maintain design integrity.
Project Management & Coordination:
Lead the architectural design process for multiple residential projects, from concept through to completion, while ensuring that project timelines and budgets are met.
Conduct site visits to oversee the progress of construction, ensuring that the project is executed according to design specifications and within set quality standards.
Act as the key point of contact for architectural coordination on the project team, addressing any design or construction challenges that arise on-site.
Manage and coordinate approvals for building permits, zoning compliance, and any necessary regulatory requirements.
Ensure seamless integration of interior architecture with FF&E (Furniture, Fixtures, and Equipment) selection and installation phases.
Preferred Qualifications + Skills:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Interior Architecture, Architecture, or a related field from an accredited institution.
A minimum of 5-7 years of experience working on high-end residential projects, with a focus on luxury interiors and custom detailing at an interior design firm or architectural practice.
Proficiency in architectural design software, including AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp, Adobe Creative Suite, and rendering software.
Proficiency or general understanding of Studio Designer software.
Strong understanding of building codes, zoning laws, and permitting processes for high-end residential projects in California.
Exceptional knowledge of high-end materials, finishes, and construction methods for luxury residential homes.
Excellent hand-drawing and sketching abilities to quickly communicate design ideas to clients and the team.
Experience in leading projects from initial concept through to final installation and completion.
Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to present ideas confidently to clients and work collaboratively with design teams, contractors, and external consultants.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple high-end projects simultaneously.
Understanding of high-performance, sustainable design principles and ability to incorporate them into luxury projects.
Professional certifications, such as LEED accreditation or NCARB certification, are a plus.
