Senior Automation Mechanical Engineer

JOB SUMMARY:
The Senior Automation Mechanical Engineer is responsible for lead development and ongoing leading engineering support of automated food processing equipment projects in the portfolio of AXIS Automation. This position provides designs that meet industry requirements for performance as well as internal requirements for cost effectiveness, accuracy, functionality, performance, and reliability.
ACCOUNTABILITY:
- Design equipment to specifications
- Detailed prints and BOMs for manufacturing
- Create manuals
- Troubleshoot issues in manufacturing or with customer
- Meet project timelines and budgets
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Independently design automation equipment for the baking industry
- Maintain design requirements, bills of material, schematics, and all necessary documentation
- Release of engineering orders to meet customer requirements and internal goals
- Create testing procedures, implementation plans, troubleshooting documents and maintenance manuals
- Write system specifications, product requirement documents and prototype test plans
- Lead design engineering team on larger projects
- Assist production, quality, sales and marketing in investigating and analyzing nonconforming product
- Investigate equipment failures and difficulties by identifying root cause and devising corrective actions
- Research and analyze customer requests for proposals to evaluate the feasibility, cost and after-market service requirements of designs or applications
- Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent (or equivalent work experience)
- 10+ years of experience in conveying, food and/or automation manufacturing environments
- Experience in designing of mechanical components (weldments, shafts, bearings and pneumatics)
- Experience in machine design
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Ability to effectively communicate with all levels and functional areas including customers and suppliers
- Good problem solver with the ability to analyze data
- Proficient in SolidWorks®
- Proficient in Microsoft® Office® suite
- Knowledge of ERP or MRP process systems is a plus
- Ability to travel (approximately 25%)

- Project cost estimates vs. actual costs
- On-time delivery
- Cost reduction targets
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT:
- Working conditions are normal for a manufacturing environment
- Requires the use of PSE to include but not limited to; eye protection while in manufacturing areas
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
