Duties & Responsibilities

  • The Child Development & Disability Specialist will oversee child development services to include quality classroom management, developmentally appropriate practices, disability services, child outcomes, licensing requirements, and record keeping; oversee the screening and assessment of children with special needs including IFSPs and IEPs.
  • Monitor and document provisions and progressions in the area of Early Childhood Education, Special Education, and School Readiness.
  • Maintains reliability in the CLASS assessment tool. Design classroom and family home assessment plans for ongoing program improvement.
  • Design and implement staff trainings to address continuous improvement in child readiness outcomes based on data collected from classrooms, current research and to ensure comprehensive programming.
  • Coordinate the provision of direct services, equipment, materials and/or appropriate placement for children diagnosed with a disability, as applicable.
  • Provide input and recommendations on staff performance to Child Care Partners, and other Early Headstart management staff for corrective action purposes.
  • Facilitate and plan meetings and trainings as assigned or in coordination with the Program Director and Health & PFCE Coordinator.
  • Manage the program responsibility as it relates to Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and Individualized Family Service Plans (IFSPs).
  • Ensure active supervision strategies are implemented with fidelity.
  • Submits written, monthly work activities and reports to Program Director or staff as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university with a major in Early Childhood Education, Social or Behavioral Science or Education, which included 18-semester hours in Early Childhood Education OR Bachelor's degree with a major in Social or Behavioral Science and a valid Child Development Associate credential or State of Florida Introductory Child Care Training Part I and Part II.
  • National Child Development Associate (CDA) credential, if applicable.
  • 2+ years of teaching experience; pre-school or kindergarten age preferred. 1+ year of supervision and/or training experience is required. Previous experience working with children and families from diverse backgrounds a must. Previous Head Start/Early Head Start experience is preferred.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds, including infant and/or toddlers weighing 6 to 50 pounds multiple times throughout the day. Bending at the waist, kneeling or crouching to maintain direct eye contact with infant/toddlers. Sitting on the floor and/or in preschool chairs. Must be able to work Saturdays and evenings for Parent Engagement and Child Care Partner activities.
  • Must be able to meet requirements for Eckerd's Auto Insurance and be able to drive for business purposes.
  • Required to pass a drug screen in compliance with our Substance Abuse and Drug-Free Workplace policy.
