Payroll Tax Manager
A leading professional services organization is seeking a skilled and dynamic leader to manage payroll tax operations across multiple entities and states. This role is pivotal in ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local tax laws, including the timely filing of returns, payments, and resolving disputes. The Payroll Tax Manager will collaborate closely with teams across HR, Operations, and Finance to ensure seamless operations and maintain precise tax-related records.
The Payroll Tax Manager will be based in Connecticut. The current work model is hybrid, 3 days remote with flexibility as needed.
Compensation: up to $140,000 + bonus (may be flexible for the right profile/background)
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee accurate and timely reporting of payroll tax liabilities and payments across multiple jurisdictions, ensuring strict compliance with federal and state regulations.
- Establish and implement standardized processes, controls, and procedures to verify accurate tax rates, reconcile data, and optimize tax reporting efficiency.
- Manage quarter-end and year-end payroll tax filings, including W-2s and amendments, leveraging expertise in multi-state payroll tax compliance.
- Stay informed about newly introduced tax regulations, such as the Employee Retention Tax Credit (ERTC), and assess their impact on payroll tax operations.
- Partner with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure timely adoption and execution of new tax regulations, proactively meeting compliance requirements.
- Provide strategic insights on the implications of regulatory changes, guiding the organization to adapt effectively and remain compliant.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Professional certifications such as Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or Certified Public Accountant (CPA) are highly preferred.
- Proven track record in leading and integrating diverse teams in a complex, multi-entity environment, preferably within the payroll tax sector.
- Extensive experience in multi-state payroll tax compliance, with strong knowledge of payroll tax regulations, W-2 reporting, and tax reconciliation processes.
- Familiarity with payroll operations in a Professional Employer Organization (PEO) or a similar industry is highly desirable.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and relevant software tools to enhance data analysis and reporting capabilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interact with cross-functional teams, senior management, clients, and external partners.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a demonstrated ability to address complex payroll tax issues.
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, meet tight deadlines, and adapt to evolving business needs.
- Experience with systems such as Master Tax or similar platform is required.
