Job Title: Special Education Teacher
Location: Lithonia, Georgia
Position Overview: We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Special Education Teacher to join our team in Lithonia, Georgia. The ideal candidate will be passionate about providing exceptional educational support to students with diverse learning needs. The Special Education Teacher will be responsible for developing and implementing individualized education programs (IEPs), collaborating with general education staff and families, and ensuring that all students have the resources and support needed to thrive academically and socially.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute individualized education programs (IEPs) tailored to each student's unique needs.
- Conduct assessments to identify student strengths and areas requiring intervention.
- Modify and adapt the general education curriculum to accommodate students with disabilities.
- Implement a variety of teaching methods and strategies to support student learning and engagement.
- Collaborate with general education teachers, school staff, and parents to foster an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
- Provide direct instruction to students in small groups and one-on-one settings.
- Monitor and document student progress, making adjustments to teaching methods as necessary.
- Maintain accurate and confidential records of student assessments, progress, and IEPs.
- Participate in professional development to stay current with best practices in special education.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in Special Education or a related field from an accredited institution.
- Valid Georgia Teaching Certificate in Special Education.
- Thorough knowledge of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and relevant state and federal regulations.
- Strong classroom management skills and the ability to create a positive learning environment.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
- Experience working with students with a range of disabilities and learning needs is preferred.
Experience:
- Prior experience as a Special Education Teacher in a school setting is advantageous.
- Familiarity with different types of disabilities and special education methodologies.
- Ability to design and implement effective instructional strategies for students with special needs.
