Sign Language Interpreter (SLI)

Job Title: Sign Language Interpreter (SLI)

Location:Portsmouth, Virginia

Overview:ProCare Therapy is seeking a dedicated and skilled Sign Language Interpreter to join our educational team in Portsmouth, Virginia. The Sign Language Interpreter will play a vital role in facilitating effective communication between deaf or hard-of-hearing students and their peers, teachers, and staff within the school environment. This position requires proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and a commitment to supporting the educational and social integration of students with hearing impairments.

  • 1:1 with elementary or middle school student
  • Onsite Only, No Remote

Qualifications:

  • Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) and proficiency in English.
  • Certification as a Sign Language Interpreter (e.g., RID certification) preferred.
  • Bachelor's level degree in ASL or Education Interpreting
  • EIPA
  • Experience working as a sign language interpreter in an educational setting, preferably in K-12 schools.
  • Understanding of deaf culture and sensitivity to the needs of students with hearing impairments.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
