Are you a detail-oriented accounting professional with grant management expertise? A state government department in Columbia, SC, is seeking a Lead Senior Accountant to join their team on a temporary basis, with the potential for a permanent role. This role offers the opportunity to manage high-volume grants and make an impact within a federal budget of approximately $500 million.

Job Purpose:
Under limited supervision, you will perform professional accounting duties of moderate to high complexity. Responsibilities include state and federal financial reporting, fiscal analysis, and the management of federal grant funds.

What We're Looking For:
Experience: 3–5 years in grant accounting within State/Higher Education or Nonprofit organizations.
Initiative: A self-starter who thrives with minimal supervision.
Team Collaboration: Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a bullpen environment.

Technical Skills:
Advanced Excel (Pivot Tables, V-Lookups) – testing required.
Familiarity with SCIES (preferred, not required).

Key Responsibilities:
Cash & Funds Management
Monitor and maintain federal and other fund cash balances daily.
Manage federal grant awards and letter of credit systems to ensure compliance with federal regulations.
Reconcile data with the agency's general ledger reporting module.

Federal Reporting & Reconciliation
Prepare and reconcile quarterly federal reports with agency records.
Create journal entries and amended reports as needed.
Assist in the preparation of key financial schedules.

Financial Reporting
Produce and support federal, state, and ad hoc financial reports related to grants.

Grant Coding & Allocation
Collaborate with Budget, HR, Procurement, and Accounts Payable teams to maintain accurate grant coding and cost allocation.

Audit & Compliance
Participate in audits and engage with program staff on grant financial management.
Oversee the direct worker certification process to ensure compliance with federal regulations.

Training & Special Projects
Provide training on federal grant policies and procedures as needed.
Undertake special projects and additional duties as assigned.
