INTRODUCTION:


The Bishop of Manchester is the visible principal and foundation of unity in the particular diocese entrusted to him. In a unique and visible way, he makes Christ's mission present and enduring as Shepherd of the Christian Community. In order to fulfill his mission, the Bishop employs suitable, chosen collaborators (clerics, religious, or lay people). He shares with them the apostolic mission and entrusts various responsibilities to them.


Each position employed in the Diocesan Administration Building helps to extend the ministry of the Bishop in particular ways as outlined in the position description. All employees of the diocesan administration assist the Bishop of Manchester in serving the parishes, schools and institutions of the Catholic Church in New Hampshire.


This position reports to the Director of Parish and School Financial Services but is also accountable to the Superintendent of Catholic Schools.



RESPONSIBILITIES:


This position primarily supports schools by reviewing school budgets, monitoring performance, providing guidance, assisting schools with loan and grant requests, and providing the necessary financial information to the Superintendent of Catholic Schools, who relies on this information in the regular course of his or her duties. Assist schools with accounting questions, and in the conversion or maintenance of accounting systems on the standard platform.


This is an in-person, in office position in Manchester, NH serving multiple schools throughout the Diocese of Manchester, which covers the state of New Hampshire.



ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Assist with the information systems accounting conversion at some schools
  2. In consultation with the Catholic Schools Office and local school governance develop, implement and administer local financial policies and procedures in accordance with the School Administration Manual and statutes of the diocese.
  3. Promotes and implements coordinated efforts for shared resources, consolidated purchasing and centralized services where prudent and cost advantageous.
  4. Works with the school Principal to define annual school financial goals and develop useful and accurate operating and capital budgets.
  5. Provides school-level strategies and procedures to foster effective financial practices in the school (e.g. tuition pricing and collection, bookkeeping, expense control staffing, etc.)
  6. Assists school principal through their audit/review process and addressing any deficiencies.
  7. Provides overall budget monitoring, including all revenue sources.
  8. Parishsoft, QuickBooks, or FACTS experience preferred
  9. Assist with the implementation of school accounting policies
  10. Travel to work with school staff on occasion and as directed
  11. Other duties as assigned



ENVIRONMENT:


The venue of this position is a general office environment that is clean and environmentally comfortable.

Requirements:

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

  1. Bachelor's degree in accounting and/or finance preferred – or equivalent experience
  2. Nonprofit experience preferred
  3. Experience working for schools in a finance or accounting capacity preferred
  4. Strong analytical and reasoning abilities, including planning, organizing, and decision-making abilities
  5. Proficiency with MS Office Suite, with strong Excel skills
  6. Ability to produce and understand basic financial reporting and statistical analysis
  7. Exceptional verbal and written skills
  8. Ability to follow written and verbal instruction with minimal errors
  9. Ability to interact and maintain positive relationships with clergy, religious and laity, both within the Diocesan Administration and outside (parishes, schools, other institutions and general public) in a knowledgeable and tactful manner
  10. Capacity to manage multiple responsibilities and activities simultaneously.
  11. At least 3 years' progressive financial management experience preferred
  12. Must possess a valid driver's license
  13. This position interacts with Catholic faithful and clergy on a regular basis. Respect for the Roman Catholic Church is required for this position.



This position requires the ability to:

  1. Minimal requirement to reach at or above shoulder level; occasionally reaching below shoulder level required
  2. Hand manipulation - equipment and controls, frequent; grasping and handling, occasional
  3. Travel throughout the diocese, as directed, not anticipated to exceed 10%.
  4. Work a flexible schedule, which may include rarer night meetings to accommodate school board meetings
  5. Tolerate prolonged sitting and/or standing and to lift to approximately 25 pounds to waist high level whenever necessary
  6. Mobility includes regular sitting, some standing and walking
  7. May have prolonged periods of computer work
